VPN France: Picking a Provider for a French IP Address

Who actually needs a French exit

The typical buyer is an expat or French speaker abroad. Replay on france.tv, a Canal+ stream, Arte, or the French tax portal and banking apps all read your address first, and a foreign IP lands on an error or a security check. A visitor inside France can skip the country picker: any nearby server keeps latency low on café Wi-Fi, and a kill switch stops traffic leaking when the tunnel drops on that network.

CitadelVPN, Surfshark and FastestVPN head to head

Where each one falls short

All three publish an outside audit of their no-logs promise and cover the major platforms, so the gaps sit elsewhere. Surfshark stores your connection IP plus timestamps until 15 minutes after a session, requires an email at sign-up, and answers to a Nine Eyes jurisdiction; that combination drags its privacy mark to 4.4. FastestVPN discloses little beyond a kill switch and WireGuard, publishes no stealth mode, and scores 0 on bypass, so nothing published suggests a fallback when a network throttles VPN traffic. CitadelVPN signs you up without an email but takes no PayPal, only card, Apple Pay / Google Pay and crypto.

Why the 40% network weight reshuffles the order

Network size and features account for two fifths of the page score, privacy for a fifth, with the rest split between security, price and terms, censorship bypass, and apps. The effect shows: TorGuard lands fourth here on a network mark of 8.3 while its privacy sub-index sits at 2.3, and IVPN falls from fourth overall to sixth on this page with roughly 80 servers and no streaming claims. If logging discipline matters more than fleet size, follow the overall score instead.

Is that Paris location really in France?

Most providers will not tell you. Out of 137, only 2 state they run virtual locations, 5 say they have none, and 130 stay silent. The city counts published by 34 services describe the whole network, not France specifically. Check it yourself: connect and run a geolocation lookup. If banks keep challenging your login, a dedicated IP (29 providers sell one) or a residential address (8 offer those) gets flagged less often than a shared one.

French TV and banking on a VPN exit

Everything streaming-related here is a provider claim; VPNRadarLab does not test unblocking and does not track French broadcasters against a live French IP. Netflix is claimed by 34 of them, dedicated streaming servers by 17, and shared datacenter exits are the first addresses broadcasters flag. Treat the refund window as your real test period, and remember that FastestVPN excludes renewals and crypto payments from its 31-day refund.

The 137 in numbers

Across the list, the cheapest plan costs €0.57 a month and the median €2.91. Since 63 providers enable auto-renewal by default, check that setting before paying.

Free French servers

Sixty-three of the 137 offer some kind of free tier, with ads confirmed at 24 of them. Only 16 publish a data allowance, so assume caps and crowded exits on the rest. The free France VPN list ranks those apps on their own terms.

FAQ

Which France VPN to pick

CitadelVPN wins on privacy (sub-index 9.3), a 2026 no-logs audit and no auto-renewal, though its 14-day refund is the shortest of the three. Surfshark runs the largest fleet with a 30-day refund and a 7-day trial, but keeps short-lived connection logs. FastestVPN is the cheapest, with a $40 lifetime option, yet its thin security disclosure is the price. If any nearby exit works for you, browse other European server lists.
