Two Kinds of Nigeria VPN User

The first group lives abroad. Some Nigerian banking apps, news sites and service portals check the visitor's country, and a foreign IP gets treated as a stranger. A Nigerian exit gives back the local address they expect.

The second group is inside the country and wants a paid service that does not log. Their questions are what the provider records, how to pay from Nigeria, and how to sign up without handing over an email address.

What Holds Each One Back

Surfshark has the largest network of the three, yet its privacy policy says it keeps connection IP and session times temporarily, deleting them within 15 minutes after the session.

LunoVPN scores higher in the main ranking (5.52, place 6) than here. Its network subindex of 4.1 drags it down on a page that rewards size: the 46 countries in its network list fall short of the 65+ it claims. It says it collects no connection IP or session times.

Mullvad charges the same €5.00 every month whatever the term, sells prepaid time with nothing auto-renewing, and mixes owned and rented servers. Its limitation is scale: 566 servers and 5 devices per account.

Page Order Versus the Main Ranking

The page score puts 40% of its weight on network and streaming. That is why Surfshark is first here but eighth in the main ranking, while LunoVPN is second here and sixth overall. Read the page score as a verdict on being a network with a Nigerian exit, the overall score as the general one.

Real Hardware or a Nigerian Label

Only three of the seventeen, TunnelBear, SwizzVPN and JamboVPN, state that their locations are physical. The other 14 do not publish whether the location is physical. A virtual location is a Nigerian IP on hardware sitting in another country. For a bank login this rarely matters; for latency from inside Nigeria it does. The cities column counts cities across each provider's whole network, not cities inside Nigeria.

Practical check: connect, run a geolocation lookup on the IP, and do it inside the refund window. If the address registers elsewhere, ask for your money back.

Paying From Nigeria

Payment or terms Providers offering it
Bank card 15 of 17
Crypto 8
PayPal 8
Money-back guarantee 14
Free trial 6 (card needed at 3)
Auto-renewal by default 11

Crypto is the fallback if a card is refused at checkout; half the list accepts it, including LunoVPN with Monero and Mullvad with Bitcoin and Monero. Both LunoVPN and Mullvad sign you up with an account number instead of an email; paid in Monero, no email ties the account to you. Mullvad and JamboVPN sell prepaid time, so there is nothing auto-renewing to cancel.

Two Red Flags and Weak Bypass Scores

ZenVPN and 7VPN carry the red flag "stores connection IP addresses", so the provider keeps a record of the address you connect from. Thirteen of 17 list a kill switch; 8 list obfuscation (stealth mode), one says it has none and 8 do not say.

Censorship bypass is the weakest area on the page. The subindex sits low everywhere: Surfshark and LunoVPN at 1.9, Mullvad at 2.4. ZenVPN has the highest bypass score on the page (3.8) and is the only one of the 17 that lists VLESS. Getting a Nigerian IP from abroad does not depend on these protocols; on networks with heavy blocking this is where the list is weakest.

Free Options

Seven of the seventeen have a free plan, but a free tier may not include the Nigeria location; our page on free VPNs with servers in Nigeria shows which keep it. VPN servers in other Middle East and Africa countries are listed separately.

FAQ

Is a VPN legal in Nigeria?

Yes. Nigerian law, including the Cybercrimes Act of 2015, targets crimes committed online, not the tools used to connect. Freedom House rates internet freedom in Nigeria as "Partly Free" in its Freedom on the Net 2025 report.

Which is the cheapest?

CopVPN, at €1.28 a month on a long plan; the median across the page is €2.83.

Can I test before paying?

Six providers offer a free trial, three of them only with a card on file.

Short Answer: Which One to Pick

Need a Nigerian IP for banking and local sites from abroad: Surfshark, for the 100-country network and 4500+ servers. Need an account untied to your email and payable in Monero: LunoVPN, which is also stronger in the main ranking. Want prepaid time with no subscription to cancel and an audited no-logs policy: Mullvad, at €5.00 flat for 5 devices. Inside Nigeria, avoid the two red-flagged services and check whether the provider lists obfuscation (stealth mode).
