Spain VPN: Comparing the Providers That Run Servers in Spain

Two reasons people pick a Spanish server

Living outside the country, you hit geo-checks on Spanish catch-up TV, some bank logins and government portals. A server in Spain gives you the address those services expect. Residents need different things: choosing Madrid gains nothing when you are already there, so look for a kill switch on flaky public Wi-Fi, protection against DNS leaks and a company that logs nothing about when you connect.

The three highest page scores for Spain

What each of the three gives up

All three point to independent audits of their logging claims, so the trade-offs sit in the fine print. Surfshark keeps your connection IP and timestamps until 15 minutes after a session ends, and its home country sits in the Nine Eyes group; both facts drag its privacy sub-index down. FastestVPN records the day and duration of every connection, publishes no stealth mode and scores zero on censorship bypass. CitadelVPN takes no PayPal; card, Apple Pay / Google Pay and crypto work.

Matchday blocking in Spain and where a VPN helps

During matches, Spanish operators block lists of IP addresses handed to them under court rulings pushed by LaLiga; blocks start shortly before kick-off and lift after the broadcast. Shared CDN addresses are why unrelated sites fail alongside the blocked ones: Redsys card payments and Linux Mint were among the collateral. Separately, OONI counted 7,441 blocked addresses from 36 providers in the first half of 2026 and more than 554,000 legitimate domains affected at some point. A Euronews reporter documented this while loading the blocked sites through a VPN exit outside Spain, not a Spanish one, so on a match evening copy that setup and pick a neighbouring European exit. A Córdoba court has meanwhile ruled that two large VPN providers must apply the same block lists during matches, so a tunnel is not a guaranteed way around the problem.

How much the 99 disclose about their Spanish location

A location in the country list says nothing about the hardware behind it: 92 of the 99 stay silent on whether the spot is virtual, only 27 publish a city count, 9 claim their own servers and 8 use RAM-only machines. If a service rejects a shared exit, 20 of the 99 providers offer a dedicated IP and 7 a residential IP.

Why a big network outranks strong privacy on this page

Network carries 40% of the page score, privacy 20%, security 13%. That is how TorGuard lands fourth with a network sub-index of 8.3 while IVPN, holder of the second-highest privacy score in the top 50 (9.0), sits sixth on a network of 2.5. If logging worries you more than fleet size, read the privacy column first.

Free Spanish servers and renewal traps

Among the 99, 37 have a free plan, ads are confirmed for 10 and a published free data allowance exists for only 9. Auto-renewal is on by default at 45 of the 99, so a cheap monthly price can quietly repeat itself. Refunds are published by 72 providers, trials by 40, and at 15 of them the trial still wants a card on file. FastestVPN requires cancelling at least 24 hours before the period ends.
