VPN Vietnam: How to Get a Vietnamese IP and Which Provider to Trust

Who needs a Vietnamese IP and from where

Most searches come from abroad. VTV Go, FPT Play and several banking portals check where the visitor connects from, so a foreign address often means a dead player or a blocked login. Expats following home television, relatives paying bills for family and gamers on Vietnamese servers all hit that wall. The second audience sits inside the country: residents and travellers who want encryption, since the 2026 cybersecurity rules oblige ISPs and platforms to store data such as IP addresses and account names.

The three leaders compared

Surfshark earns the lead with NoBorders stealth mode, RAM-only servers and unlimited devices; its privacy sub-index of 4.4 reflects a connection log kept up to 15 minutes and a mandatory email. FastestVPN wins on price, including a $40 lifetime plan, but logs the day and duration of your connections, and with no published obfuscation it is a weak choice on networks that block VPN protocols. UFO VPN runs only its own Protocols A to D, no WireGuard, and its own pages disagree on the device limit: 6 on the pricing site, 5 in the Terms.

Why network size weighs so heavily

Network features make up 40% of the page score, privacy 20%. That weighting lifts UFO VPN to third place here while it sits 39th in the main ranking, and it explains the weak censorship figures: Surfshark's bypass sub-index is 1.9, UFO VPN's is 1, FastestVPN scores 0. If you need one solid Vietnamese exit rather than a hundred-country map, read the privacy and bypass columns before the headline number.

Physical server or virtual location

Only 2 of the 25 admit to virtual locations, the other 23 say nothing, and just 8 publish city counts. A virtual location hands out a Vietnamese-registered address while the hardware sits elsewhere. Streaming apps rarely notice, but latency does, as do services checking the IP against registry data. Test it from anywhere: ping the Vietnam server, then the same provider's server in a neighbouring country. A machine that really stands in Vietnam answers clearly faster.

Is a VPN legal in Vietnam

Yes. Articles 8 and 9 of the Law on Cybersecurity 2018 make users liable for unlawful acts committed through a VPN, not for the tool itself, as a June 2025 assessment by a Ho Chi Minh City compliance firm confirms. Encryption keeps your traffic away from the ISP, but it does not remove ID requirements when registering local social or trading accounts.

Security and privacy across the whole list of 25

The list holds 15 consumer VPNs, 7 free or mobile apps, 2 gaming VPNs and 1 decentralised service. Eleven never name their home jurisdiction, which matters more than a long server list when the tool is meant to protect you. Auto-renewal is on by default at 15 of 25, so mark the cancellation date in your calendar.

Test the IP before the refund window closes

Connect to the Vietnam server, run an IP lookup, and check that the country and the DNS servers both read Vietnam. Then open the service you actually came for. If it fails, switch protocol or server while the refund period still runs; Surfshark's 7-day trial bills automatically unless you cancel.

FAQ

Short verdict

Surfshark combines the largest network of the three leaders with an independent audit. If price decides, FastestVPN costs far less and is audited too, though its protections are thinner. Whichever you pick, test the address within the refund period.
