New Zealand VPN: Who Offers an NZ Exit and on What Terms

Two reasons to want an NZ exit

Buyer one lives overseas. A bank in Wellington, a tax portal or a catch-up TV service sees a foreign IP and either demands extra checks or refuses outright. An NZ server solves it, though every packet now crosses half the planet, so from Europe or North America expect visibly higher latency.

Buyer two is already in the country and wants the nearest possible exit for low ping while the ISP sees only encrypted traffic. Don't substitute Sydney: every geo-check treats an Australian server as a different country, as our page on VPNs with Australian servers explains, and NZ-only sites will reject it like one in Germany.

The top three on price, refund and privacy

Surfshark's cheap rate exists only on the long plan and rebills unless cancelled. TorGuard's figure covers a single month at the same renewal price, and its refund window closes in a week, so test the NZ exit on day one. IVPN skips email entirely: it issues an account ID and accepts cash or Monero.

Why this order differs from the main ranking

This page puts network at 40% of the score, privacy 20%, security 13.3%, price and terms 10%, censorship bypass 10%, apps and support 6.7%. That weighting rewards TorGuard's big network and lifts it to second, while its privacy score of 2.3 drops it to 27th in the main ranking, where privacy counts for more. IVPN mirrors it: a modest network costs points here, a privacy score of 9.0 puts it fourth overall. If logging matters more than server count, read the main ranking instead.

What the forty services are

Twenty-five are ordinary consumer VPNs; the rest split into eight free mobile apps, four VPNs inside security suites, two gaming tunnels and a single Smart DNS entry. That Smart DNS service rewrites DNS resolution only, leaving the IP unchanged, so a bank checking your connection country won't accept it. Thirteen providers sit in 5 Eyes countries, two in 9 Eyes, three in 14 Eyes, twelve outside all alliances.

Checks before you pay

1. Check the app's location list rather than the marketing site, and make sure your plan's list includes New Zealand.
2. Ask whether the location is physical. Thirty-five of forty never publish this for any exit, and a virtual NZ label means the hardware sits elsewhere.
3. Count refund days: seven on TorGuard, fourteen on Mullvad, thirty on Surfshark and IVPN. Plan your test inside them.
4. Switch off auto-renewal on day one; it is on by default at 27 of the 40.
5. Note the company's jurisdiction. An Auckland exit says nothing about which authorities can demand the operator's data.

Free NZ servers

Seventeen of the forty services offer a free plan, twenty-two do not and one does not say, and eight of those free plans publish their data allowance, which runs anywhere from 500 MB a month to unlimited. Our free VPN list with NZ servers covers the free options separately.

FAQ

Which one fits which reader

Take Surfshark for a low long-plan price of $2.49 a month on the 27-month plan together with a Deloitte no-logs audit (cancel the renewal), TorGuard if you want dedicated IP and port forwarding and accept US jurisdiction, IVPN for anonymous sign-up and audited privacy, Mullvad for a flat €5 and cash payments accepted in NZ dollars by post. Whatever you pick, connect inside the refund window and confirm your bank site accepts the exit.
