What users say

Reviews never change our score. Ratings are smoothed: a source’s average across all VPNs counts as 50 extra reviews, so a few five-star reviews cannot outrank thousands.

  • Trustpilot

    3.84 of 5, smoothed

From 200 collected reviews (raw average 3.88; all VPNs 3.66). Last 90 days: 3.84 from 149.

The company replied to 46 of 46 negative reviews (1–2 stars).

  • App Store

    4.33 of 5, smoothed

CyberGhost VPN not working? Common causes and what to check

2 things to check, built from what CyberGhost VPN publishes about its apps, protocols and support. We do not test connections ourselves.

What to check

CyberGhost is worth the money if you torrent, cover a house full of devices and watch the renewal date, and a poor pick if your enemy is DPI: the service scores 4.18 of 10 at VPNRadarLab, ranks 24th of 377, and the gap comes from a censorship-bypass sub-score of zero and a no-logs policy with no independent audit on record in VPNRadarLab's data.

Why CyberGhost sits at 24th of 377

The network is the star: against a network median of 3.1, the network and streaming sub-score of 6.2 leads by the widest margin, built on a 100-country, 9,600-server footprint. Security, privacy and platforms also sit above their medians, and CyberGhost has no red flag.

Two areas hold it back. First, censorship bypass: 0 of 10.5 points. The client runs WireGuard, OpenVPN and IKEv2, which strict filters recognise easily without an obfuscation layer, and VPNRadarLab has no record of a stealth mode or similar tooling, so a filtered network leaves the app without a plan B. Second, privacy misses its largest item: the policy promises no connection or activity logs, but an independent audit of that promise is not on record in VPNRadarLab's data, which costs 3 points. No warrant canary either, and sign-up requires an email tied to a real identity.

Romania, the owner and what the policy collects

The operator, CyberGhost S.R.L., is based in Bucharest, and Romania outside the 5, 9 and 14 Eyes earns privacy points. The parent, Kape Technologies PLC, also owns ExpressVPN, Private Internet Access and ZenMate. The privacy policy lists account email, an anonymized IP at sign-up for fraud checks, device details, app events passed to AppsFlyer, website trackers including Google Analytics, and disclosure of data when a law or court order requires it; the full picture is on the CyberGhost safety page.

First-term price against the renewal bill

Term First payment Monthly rate Renewal
2 years + 2 months $51.74 $1.99 $51.74 every year
6 months $41.94 $6.99 $41.94
1 month $12.99 $12.99 $12.99

The $1.99 rate covers only the first 26 months; after that the same $51.74 buys twelve months, so the monthly cost rises about 2.2 times, and auto-renewal is on by default. Cancel in your account or by email the day you buy. Refunds run 45 days on plans of six months or longer and 14 days on the monthly plan; app-store purchases follow store rules. The first term works out near €1.71 a month against a market median of €3.13.

Where CyberGhost earns its keep day to day

Task What the provider publishes The catch
Torrenting P2P-optimized servers, unlimited data Copyright infringement is banned by the terms
Living room Apps for Android TV, Fire TV, Apple TV, smart TVs, routers, consoles No named streaming service is claimed
Fixed address Dedicated IP add-on, +$5/month, 21 locations Costs extra
Filtered networks Nothing published No obfuscation or stealth mode is published

On hotel Wi-Fi the kill switch stops traffic the moment the tunnel drops, and DNS leak protection keeps lookups inside the tunnel. Streaming servers exist, but CyberGhost names no platform it promises to unblock. Apps cover Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android and more, seven devices at once.

Who should buy it and who should skip it

Buy it if you torrent, share one subscription across a household and will disable auto-renewal on day one. Skip it if you need to work through a censored network or want an audited no-logs policy; the alternatives ranking sorts comparable services by score.

CyberGhost VPN buyer questions

Is there a free version?

No free plan and no stated trial; the 45-day money-back window on long plans is the closest substitute.

Can CyberGhost unblock Netflix?

The provider publishes streaming-optimized servers but claims no specific platform, and VPNRadarLab runs no unblocking tests.

How many devices can I connect?

Seven simultaneously across the published app range.

Can I pay with crypto?

On paper. Bitcoin via BitPay is named in the privacy policy, but the checkout does not show it; cards, PayPal and the usual wallets are there.

The CyberGhost VPN call

The first cycle costs well under the €3.13 market median, backed by a huge server map, P2P support and a Romanian jurisdiction outside the intelligence alliances. The renewal bill runs about 2.2 times the intro rate, no independent no-logs audit is on record in VPNRadarLab's data, and bypass tooling is unpublished. Right for torrenting and households; wrong for filtered networks.
