CyberGhost returns the full price if you ask within the guarantee window: 14 days on the monthly plan, 45 days on the 6-month and the 2-years-plus-2-months plans, counted from the purchase date. The guarantee covers only orders made on the CyberGhost website. Anything bought inside the Apple, Google or Amazon app store, or via a gift card or reseller, is refunded by that store or seller under its own rules. After the deadline there is no partial refund at all.
Which CyberGhost plan gets 14 days and which gets 45
| Plan | First payment (USD, before tax) | Refund window | Renewal price |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 month | $12.99 | 14 days | $12.99 per month |
| 6 months | $41.94 ($6.99/month) | 45 days | $41.94 per half-year |
| 2 years + 2 months | $51.74 ($1.99/month, 85% off) | 45 days | $51.74 per year |
The VPN and its apps work the same on every term, but the multi-year plan adds extras such as NoSpy servers and ID Guard, so check whether you need them before picking the shortest option. If you want to test on your network, the 26-month plan buys you the longest safety net and costs barely more than the half-year one at checkout.
Where you paid decides who returns the money
CyberGhost can only reverse charges it took itself. Buying at the website with Apple Pay or Google Pay remains a website order that the guarantee covers; starting a subscription through an app on iOS, Android or Fire TV does not.
| Purchase route | Who decides | Where to ask |
|---|---|---|
| Website (card, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Amazon Pay) | CyberGhost | its support |
| In-app via Apple App Store | Apple | Apple support |
| In-app via Google Play | Google Play support | |
| In-app via Amazon Appstore | Amazon | Amazon support |
| Gift card or third-party seller | the seller | the seller's policy |
The store path is where people lose money: CyberGhost staff will point you back to Apple, Google or Amazon, and those stores decide under their own terms, not under CyberGhost's 45-day guarantee.
Asking CyberGhost support for the money
Nothing is automatic. Reach support through the live chat on the site, an email to support@cyberghost.ro, or a Help Center ticket, and state that you want the money back under the guarantee. Have the order number or reference number from your invoice ready; it speeds up finding the account. CyberGhost does not publish a phone number for support, so the routes it lists are chat, email and tickets.
Switching off auto-renewal is a separate step. Cancelling only stops the next charge; it never files a refund claim on its own. The CyberGhost cancellation steps are covered in a separate guide.
After day 14 or day 45: no partial refunds
Miss the deadline and CyberGhost keeps the whole amount. The subscription keeps working until the paid period ends, then stops, provided renewal is switched off. There is no pro-rata return for unused months. Auto-renewal is on by default when you sign up, and the long plan renews at $51.74 a year for twelve months instead of the original twenty-six, so the monthly cost jumps 2.17 times. Set a calendar reminder several days before the deadline so you do not forget to claim.
Where the refund terms help and hurt the CyberGhost score
VPNRadarLab scores CyberGhost 4.18 overall, place 24 in the main ranking, with a price-and-terms sub-score of 3.58 out of 10. The refund window itself earns full points, since 45 days beats the 30-day cap of that scale, and the service also picks up points for covering monthly buyers and allowing self-service cancelling. What costs it: no partial refunds, auto-renewal switched on by default, no reminder before the renewal charge, and that 2.17x price jump on the long plan.
CyberGhost refund questions
Can I call about a refund?
CyberGhost does not publish a phone number for support. Chat, email and tickets are the routes it lists.
Does heavy use cancel the guarantee?
No. The guarantee page says it ignores how often or how long you connected, how much bandwidth you burned and how many devices you installed it on.
Is there a free trial instead?
No trial and no free plan exist. The money-back window is your only test period.
What decides whether your CyberGhost money comes back
Plan length sets the window: two weeks monthly, 45 days for half a year and longer. Where you paid decides who refunds: website orders go through CyberGhost, in-app store purchases through Apple, Google or Amazon, and gift card or reseller purchases through that seller. And you must actually contact support inside that window; simply stopping renewal gets you no money back. For comparison across providers, see the VPN refund policies overview, or read the official CyberGhost refund policy in the Help Center.
