What you pay to keep ExpressVPN running: the first term, then renewals at the published renewal price. Where no renewal price is published, plans shorter than a year are counted as repeat payments at the current price; longer plans show a dash after their term. Converted to euros at the rates used in our data (1 USD = €0.86). The lowest cost for each period is marked.

Renewal note
After first 28 months autorenews annually at $99.95 / $119.95 / $199.95

ExpressVPN's cheapest tier costs $2.99 a month on the current 28-month offer ($83.72 upfront), renews at $99.95 for every following 12 months, and sits just below the €3.13 market median for VPNs. That renewal, not the intro rate, is where your real bill lives: on Basic it works out to about $8.33 a month, roughly 2.8 times what you paid to start.

Basic, Advanced or Pro: what the higher tiers buy

Tier First payment Per month Yearly renewal Devices Adds
Basic $83.72 $2.99 $99.95 10 VPN, Threat Manager, MailGuard aliases
Advanced $125.72 $4.49 $119.95 12 ExpressKeys, eSIM, Identity Defender
Pro $209.72 $7.49 $199.95 14 dedicated IP, ExpressAI

Every tier comes with unlimited data and no speed cap, while the protection level of the built-in ad and malware blocker differs by tier, according to ExpressVPN's own subscription guide. Higher tiers mostly buy side products and a few more simultaneous device slots. If all you want is the VPN, Basic is the whole product and the extras are decoration.

When the 28-month offer runs out

The order rolls into a yearly charge once the first term ends, and that jump is steep on the entry tier: $2.99 becomes $8.33 a month, a factor of 2.79 (the page rounds it to ×2.8). Advanced and Pro climb by about 2.2 times, since their starting discounts had been smaller. On cards and PayPal auto-renewal is on by default, so the intro rate quietly turns into the renewal rate unless you cancel under My Subscription or by live chat. Bitcoin leaves auto-renewal off.

Over three years you pay the first charge plus exactly one renewal: $183.67 on Basic, $245.67 on Advanced, $409.67 on Pro. Over one and two years the cost is just the first payment, since it already covers 28 months. The headline "up to 80% off" compares the offer with spending 28 months on the monthly list price, which tells you nothing about renewal costs. Add-ons and bundled products by tier

A dedicated IP is the add-on most buyers care about, since banks and work portals often reject shared exit addresses. On Basic and Advanced it is a paid extra whose fee the pricing page hides; on Pro it is included.

Advanced bundles the ExpressKeys password manager, Identity Defender (ID alerts, data removal and identity theft insurance up to $3 million, Pro gets $5 million) and a holiday.com eSIM with 3 GB. The catch: Identity Defender is for U.S. customers only, so everyone else pays for a feature they cannot activate. ExpressAI is a Pro-only extra, while MailGuard email aliases appear in every tier with limits that grow upward. What ExpressVPN does not sell at all: antivirus, double VPN or cloud storage.

Advanced, first term 3.86 Above
Pro, first term 6.44 About twice

Euro figures are conversions at 1 USD = €0.86. In our scoring the price and terms section reaches 3.1 of 10, and the single biggest deduction there is the 1.75-point penalty for the renewal jump. Points come from the entry price, the 30-day refund window, 10 devices, crypto payment and self-service cancelling; the criteria for a free plan, a free trial, cash payment, renewal reminders and default-off auto-renewal all score zero, because ExpressVPN offers none of those things. The total score is 4.77, place 14 in the VPNRadarLab main ranking.

How to pay and what checkout adds

Cards, PayPal, Bitcoin (the only coin listed), the App Store, Google Play and gift card redemption codes all work. Cash does not. Prices are published in dollars without VAT, so a sales tax can be added at checkout where it applies. Sign-up needs only an email: no phone number, no identity check. The 30-day money-back guarantee covers new subscribers only, while renewals and redemption codes are not refundable and purchases made through the App Store or Google Play are refunded by Apple or Google.

Quick answers on ExpressVPN pricing

Can I try it for free?

No free plan and no trial. The 30-day money-back guarantee fills that role.

Is there a monthly plan?

Shorter terms exist, but the order page we checked showed no price for them, so we quote none.

Do students get a lower price?

Yes, a separate student offer exists. Bitcoin brings no discount.

Which tier is worth the money

Take Basic unless one of the bundled products is the reason you are buying, since the VPN core is the same everywhere. Advanced suits U.S. buyers who actually want Identity Defender, as elsewhere that feature is dead weight, and Pro makes sense mainly if you would pay for a dedicated IP anyway. Whichever you pick, disable auto-renewal right away or settle in Bitcoin so it never switches on.
