How to cancel ExpressVPN and turn off auto-renewal: website, App Store, Google Play
How ExpressVPN says you cancel: My Subscription > Cancel, or live chat/email. Auto-renewal by default: yes (cards/PayPal; off for Bitcoin).

What renewal costs
| Plan | First payment | Then |
|---|---|---|
| Basic, 28 mo | €72.00 | €85.96 / 12 mo |
| Advanced, 28 mo | €108.12 | €103.16 / 12 mo |
| Pro, 28 mo | €180.36 | €171.96 / 12 mo |
Where your money goes decides where the off switch lives. If the subscription was paid on expressvpn.com with a card or PayPal, you turn off renewal in the My Subscription section of your account: Cancel subscription sits right under the Automatic renewal line. Store purchases behave differently, since only the App Store or Google Play can end a plan it bills. Bitcoin orders have auto-renewal off, so there is nothing to cancel. In every case the VPN keeps running until the final day of the term you already paid for.
Which route applies: check how you paid
Look at the receipt before touching any settings. A charge from ExpressVPN points to the website flow, an App Store or Google Play charge points to the store's subscription page. The fast check:
| Payment method | Renews on its own? | Where to cancel |
|---|---|---|
| Card or PayPal on the site | Yes | My Subscription in any browser |
| Apple App Store | Yes | Apple subscription settings |
| Google Play | Yes | Payments & subscriptions of the paying Google account |
| Bitcoin | No | Nothing to cancel, the plan lapses |
Cancelling on the ExpressVPN website
The ExpressVPN app has no cancel option anywhere in its menus, a detail that trips up plenty of subscribers. A browser is the tool, on desktop or phone alike:
- Open the My Subscription page in a browser and sign in when asked.
- Locate the Automatic renewal block.
- Hit Cancel subscription and walk through the prompts until confirmation.
The official ExpressVPN cancellation guide documents the same steps. Support can do it for you too, via chat or a ticket.
No Cancel subscription button showing?
That gap usually appears after a renewal payment failed. The renewal attempts keep coming as long as the saved card stays in the account, so removing that payment method is what stops the cycle.
Cancelling ExpressVPN on iPhone, iPad or Android
Apple and Google insist on ending the subscription through the store that holds the billing. On iPhone or iPad, open the App Store, tap the profile icon, go to Subscriptions, select ExpressVPN and confirm the cancellation. The same screen also opens in Settings under your name. When no cancel button appears, or a red expiry notice shows instead, the job is already finished.
Android users launch Google Play, tap the profile icon, then Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions, and cancel from that list. On a desktop, the Google Play help page on subscriptions describes the Manage route. Two traps: sign in with the paying Google account, and finish at least 24 hours before the next billing date, since the store otherwise charges one more cycle. Removing the app itself changes nothing on the bill.
What stays active until the paid term runs out
Turning off renewal only blocks the next charge. Access continues through the last day of the current cycle, and once that term ends the account is suspended until a manual payment revives it. ExpressKeys follows the same pattern: stored logins stay readable, but you cannot add new ones once the cycle closes. Money already paid does not return by itself, and the VPNRadarLab guide to the ExpressVPN refund policy explains which purchases qualify.
The renewal bill you avoid
ExpressVPN prices its 28-month offer, the two-year stretch plus four bonus months, at a heavy discount, and that intro rate covers only that first stretch. Renewal then lands annually at a full rate:
| Plan | First 28 months | Per month | Renews yearly at |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | $83.72 | $2.99 | $99.95 |
| Advanced | $125.72 | $4.49 | $119.95 |
| Pro | $209.72 | $7.49 | $199.95 |
VPNRadarLab measures the step up as x2.79 and docks points for it, while the self-service cancellation flow earns a point back in the same terms block. Sales tax can stack on at checkout. A new published price only ever applies from the next renewal, never to the period already paid.
