A Surfshark plan bought on the website stops billing once you turn off auto-renewal in your account: Subscription page, Payments tab, Cancel auto-renewal. If the plan was paid through Apple, Google Play or Amazon, the same switch sits in that store instead. Either way the VPN keeps working until the billing period you already paid for runs out, and nothing else gets charged unless you turn renewal back on.

Check your Surfshark account first

The Subscription page tells you which cancellation route applies before you touch anything.

Switching off renewal on the Surfshark website

Every plan ordered on the site renews automatically unless you say otherwise. The steps:

  1. Log in to your Surfshark account.
  2. Click your email address in the top-right corner and choose Subscription.
  3. Open the Payments tab.
  4. Under Subscription details, press Cancel auto-renewal and confirm the prompt.

A confirmation email usually follows. Surfshark documents the same flow in its help center article on cancelling.

Cancelling through live chat

Support chat runs 24/7, and the bot hands out a personal cancellation link once you type that you want to stop the plan; a couple of questions about the reason follow. Email tickets exist too, but there is no phone line.

Stopping a plan billed by Apple, Google or Amazon

On an iPhone or iPad: Settings, your name, Subscriptions, Surfshark, Cancel Subscription (you may need to scroll). Mac owners open the App Store, find their name at the bottom of the sidebar, tap it again and open Subscriptions. No cancel button, or a red expiration message, means the subscription is already stopped.

Android users sign in to Google Play with the account that actually holds the plan, tap the profile icon, then Payments & subscriptions, Subscriptions, Surfshark, Cancel subscription. From a computer, the same subscriptions page on Google Play shows a Manage control beside Surfshark; pick a reason and continue. A second Google account will show an empty subscription list. Deleting the app changes nothing about billing.

Amazon buyers: Account & Lists, then Memberships & Subscriptions, find Surfshark, Cancel Subscription and follow the prompts. Surfshark recommends doing this from a desktop browser because the mobile path does not always cooperate.

Ending the 7-day trial before the first charge

The trial only comes with the 12- and 24-month plans and requires card details, PayPal or Apple Pay on file. After seven days, the full plan is billed automatically. If testing is all you wanted, switch off auto-renewal before the seventh day and you will never see the charge. First-term pricing runs $2.49 a month on Starter or One (a 2-year order billed once for 27 months), $3.19 a month for 1 year and $15.45 monthly; the Surfshark site does not show the renewal amount.

What happens after you cancel

Action Access Future charges Money back Account
Cancel auto-renewal Until the period ends Stopped No Kept
Delete the account Ends immediately Stopped No Removed
Refund request Ends once processed Stopped Full payment, within 30 days of the first purchase Kept

Turning renewal off never returns money for unused time; a refund is its own 30-day request, covered in the Surfshark refund guide. Since the renewal price stays hidden and the 2-year plan moves to annual billing after the first term, cancelling early is the cautious move; VPNRadarLab rates the price and terms at 5.7 out of 10.

Deleting the Surfshark account

There is no delete button anywhere in the dashboard. Deleting means asking live chat, and the removal wipes any remaining paid time along with the login. Account data itself is retained for up to two years after your last login, payment records for ten, per the privacy policy. If the goal is only to stop payments, cancel renewal and keep the account.

Surfshark cancellation FAQ

Does deleting the Surfshark app cancel the subscription?

No. Billing lives in your Surfshark account or in the store, not on your phone.

Can I restart the plan later?

Yes. Auto-renewal can be re-enabled in the same Payments tab, or you can order a fresh plan.

Cancelling Surfshark in short

Website orders stop in the Payments tab; store orders stop in the store that bills you. Access lasts until the paid term ends, and deletion burns whatever paid time remains. Readers leaving over auto-renewal can look at VPNs with a one-time payment.
