Surfshark plans and pricing Starter vs One vs One+, extras and the second bill
The cheapest way in is €2.14 a month, paid upfront for the longest term. After that term, Surfshark renews at its standard price. Market median across the main ranking: €3.13 a month.
Real cost over 1, 2 and 3 years
What you pay to keep Surfshark running: the first term, then renewals at the published renewal price. Where no renewal price is published, plans shorter than a year are counted as repeat payments at the current price; longer plans show a dash after their term. Converted to euros at the rates used in our data (1 USD = €0.86). The lowest cost for each period is marked.

On the 27-month plan, Surfshark Starter and One cost $67.23 billed once, which works out to $2.49 a month (about €2.14). One+ is $121.23 for the same term, or $4.49 a month (about €3.86). The euro figures matter because the VPNRadarLab market median sits at €3.13 a month: the two cheaper tiers undercut it by roughly a third, the top tier overshoots it by about a quarter. The catch comes later, since the renewal price after the first term goes unpublished.
Starter, One and One+ on the 27-month term
The two-year plan carries three bonus months, so you pay once and get 27 months of service.
| Plan | Billed once | Per month | Approx. € per month | Adds on top of the VPN |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $67.23 | $2.49 | ≈ 2.14 | nothing extra |
| One | $67.23 | $2.49 | ≈ 2.14 | Antivirus, Alert |
| One+ | $121.23 | $4.49 | ≈ 3.86 | Antivirus, Alert, Incogni |
With identical pricing on the long term, Starter is only for people certain they will skip the antivirus and the leak alerts. One+ costs $54 more over the 27 months, and that premium buys Incogni, which files data-removal requests with broker databases on your behalf. MultiHop (double VPN) and the ad, pop-up and tracker blocker belong to the VPN itself, not to any named tier, so the tiers differ only in the security extras.
Monthly and yearly terms without a published price
Surfshark also sells a 1-month and a 12-month term, but the VPNRadarLab price sheet that these figures come from lists amounts for the long plan only, so no figure is quoted for the shorter ones. A 7-day trial exists only alongside the 12-month or 24-month plan: it requires a card, PayPal or Apple Pay and charges automatically when the week ends.
The second bill and the price Surfshark keeps unpublished
Once the 27 months are up, the plan renews every 12 months at Surfshark's renewal price, and the amount stays unpublished. Its terms also reserve the right to change prices after notice. That combination makes year three impossible to price in advance. Auto-renewal is on by default, so the first-term deal quietly becomes a yearly charge unless you switch it off in your account or email support. Do that soon after checkout if you want the choice to remain yours.
Extras by plan and extras sold separately
| Extra | Where it comes from |
|---|---|
| Antivirus and Alert (leak alerts) | One and One+ |
| Incogni data removal | One+ only |
| Dedicated IP (20 locations) | paid add-on, price not published |
| Alternative Number, scam protection, Alternative ID, identity theft cover (US) | add-ons and identity tools, no price shown |
The dedicated IP is worth budgeting for if your bank or employer's portal keeps blocking shared VPN addresses; a fixed exit solves that. The virtual number, Alternative Number, suits cases where a shop demands a phone you would rather keep to yourself. No password manager, eSIM or cloud storage is sold, and no family plan either, which is redundant anyway since unlimited devices are included under fair usage (3 devices during the trial).
How Surfshark's price scores against the market
Against the €3.13 median from the VPNRadarLab price overview, Starter and One at about €2.14 look cheap; One+ at about €3.86 sits above the middle of the pack. In the price and terms sub-score, worth 15% of the total grade, Surfshark earns 5.7 out of 10, with the entry tier itself taking 1.84 of 2.5. Points are collected for the entry price, the trial, the 30-day refund window, unlimited devices, crypto payment and self-service cancelling. Points are lost on the absent free tier, a trial that requires a card, cash payment, renewal reminders and auto-renewal being on by default. The renewal-jump penalty is not applied, since the jump cannot be measured when the amount is unknown. Overall Surfshark holds a total score of 5.3, placing it 8th in the main ranking.
Paying for Surfshark: currency, tax and methods
Published prices are in US dollars excluding VAT, so local tax can add to the total at checkout, and figures may differ by currency and country. Payment runs through bank cards, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Play, crypto via Coingate and gift or prepaid cards; Paddle and Cleverbridge process some transactions, and cash is not accepted. Sign-up needs only an email, no phone number and no identity check. The refund window lasts 30 days from the first purchase, with one refund allowed per service, but recurring payments, gift and prepaid cards, Alternative ID, anonymous dedicated IP and some resellers are excluded, as detailed on the refund page.
Surfshark billing FAQ
Is there a family plan?
No, and it would be redundant: one subscription covers unlimited devices under fair usage.
Does paying in crypto make it cheaper?
No. Crypto is accepted at the standard price through Coingate.
Can students pay less?
Yes, Surfshark offers a discount for students and recent graduates.
Which Surfshark plan to buy
Take One on the 27-month term: identical to Starter in price, with antivirus and Alert included. One+ is worth the extra $54 only if you want Incogni's broker removal. Whichever you pick, disable auto-renewal immediately after purchase, because the renewal price stays unpublished and the terms allow it to change with notice.
