Real cost over 1, 2 and 3 years
What you pay to keep Windscribe running: the first term, then renewals at the published renewal price. Where no renewal price is published, plans shorter than a year are counted as repeat payments at the current price; longer plans show a dash after their term. Converted to euros at the rates used in our data (1 USD = €0.86). The lowest cost for each period is marked.

The cheapest paid route into Windscribe is the custom Build-A-Plan at $3 a month minimum ($1 per location, 10 GB of data each). Full access through Pro costs $9 month to month or $69 a year, which works out at $5.75 a month. Renewals sit at the same price on every plan, so the second bill never surprises you. Against a market median of €3.13 for the cheapest monthly price, Windscribe's entry door is cheap and its Pro rate is on the expensive side.
Pro on a monthly or yearly term, and what each renews at
| Term | Billed | Per month | Renews at | Three years |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Monthly | $9 each month | $9.00 | $9 | $324 |
| Yearly | $69 every 12 months | $5.75 | $69 | $207 |
The two Pro prices appear on Windscribe's upgrade page: a year up front cuts the rate from $9 to $5.75, roughly 36% less than twelve monthly payments ($108 versus $69). No discount badge is printed for this; the arithmetic is ours, and it is the plainest reason to commit for twelve months if you plan to stay anyway. Auto-renewal is on by default at the same figure, and you can cancel whenever you like.
Build-A-Plan and the free tier: paying per location
| Free | Build-A-Plan | Pro | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cost | $0 | $1 per location monthly, $3 floor | $9 or $69 |
| Data | capped, amount not published | 10 GB per location | unlimited |
| Locations | a subset | up to 7 of your choosing | all of them |
The custom plan suits narrow habits: a home-country exit for banking plus one for travel stays at the $3 floor. Each added location lifts the bill by a dollar, and the yearly sum passes annual Pro once the sixth location goes in ($72 versus $69), while the 10 GB cap per location remains. Pro removes both limits. The free account costs nothing and differs from Pro only in bandwidth and locations, so it doubles as the trial Windscribe does not otherwise sell.
Static IP, Control D and the other extras
A fixed address is sold as a separate add-on whose price the order page leaves unlisted, so verify it at checkout before committing. Port forwarding and the Control D managed DNS service sit in the same add-ons block. Windscribe ships no antivirus, no password manager, no eSIM and no cloud storage alongside its plans. A subscription can be bought as a gift, and a Refer a Friend programme exists for those who bring others in.
Paying by card, PayPal, crypto or cash
Cards and PayPal cover most buyers. Cryptocurrency is simply another accepted payment method, and cash, which a Windscribe help article describes, suits anyone avoiding a bank trail. Since an email address is optional at sign-up, an account can be purchased with no personal details attached. Local payment methods appear at checkout too, though Windscribe does not say which. Paying in crypto earns no discount. Refunds: within 7 business days of the start, under 10 GB used, initial payment only (refund terms).
Windscribe against the €3.13 market median
Converting at 1 USD = €0.86, one Build-A-Plan location costs €0.86 a month and the $3 floor lands at about €2.58, below the €3.13 median across VPNRadarLab's main ranking. Pro Yearly runs €4.95 a month, roughly 1.6 times the median; Pro Monthly at €7.74 sits about 2.5 times above it. Flat renewals are common in this market: 44 of the 73 services with a known renewal ratio re-bill within 5% of the first price, and Windscribe's ratio of 1.0 puts it among them, so no doubled second bill here.
The price and terms sub-score of 4.85 out of 10 comes from thin safety nets rather than the rates themselves. Full points go to the free plan, unlimited devices and the crypto-and-cash options, with no penalty for renewal tricks. What drags it down: no timed trial (0 points), the seven-business-day refund window (0.35 of 1.5), and zero across the six fair-terms checks such as refunds on monthly plans and pro-rata refunds. The overall score stands at 4.09, place 32 in the main ranking. If you want to model the bill for your own device count, the VPN cost calculator does the sums.
Windscribe plan FAQ
Is there a free trial?
No. The free plan stands in for one, so run your tests on it before paying anything.
Can I buy a two-year or lifetime plan?
Twelve months is as far as the terms go. There is no family plan either.
How many devices does one plan cover?
Unlimited personal devices at once on every plan. Sharing the account with others breaks the terms.
Picking a Windscribe plan by how you use it
One or two countries and modest traffic point to Build-A-Plan at its floor. Whole-network access on every device points to annual Pro at $69, which renews at the same figure. A month of travel justifies the $9 monthly bill, and starting on the free tier costs nothing at all.
