Unlimited Free VPNs With No Data Cap: How They Pay for It
Yes, unlimited free VPNs exist: this page lists 68 of them, and 46 of the 68 are free mobile apps. The cap moves elsewhere instead of disappearing. Free tiers pay with ads and ad SDKs, throttled speeds, a single device, a handful of countries, watch-to-connect timers, or a slice of your idle connection sold to proxy customers. Only 6 of the 68 hold an independent no-logs audit, and in 42 of 68 cases "unlimited" is the provider's own claim, not a published guarantee. Read more

Top 3 unlimited free VPNs on this page
| Service | Page score | Based in | Free terms | Ads | Paid from | Refund |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| CitadelVPN | 8.37 | Panama | free access; 5-day trial, 5 GB, 2 devices, no card | no | €1.38/mo | 14 days |
| Proton VPN | 5.89 | Switzerland | no cap, medium speed, 1 device, 10 random countries | no | €3.00/mo | 30 days |
| OllaVPN | 4.66 | not published | no cap with daily fair-use caps, 10 Mbps, 1 device | no | €2.57/mo | 30 days |

How a no-cap free VPN pays its bills
| Model | Seen in the data | What it costs you |
|---|---|---|
| Ads in the app | 43 of 68 services | attention, ad IDs, battery |
| Watch-to-connect | DOG VPN, JustVPN | connection time, in slices |
| Speed ceiling | Shellfire 1,000 kbit/s; RelyVPN 160 kbps | usable throughput |
| Fair-use clause | OllaVPN, SkyVPN | the "unlimited" itself |
| Bandwidth resale | Bright VPN, Super Free VPN | your idle connection |
Ads, trackers and watch-to-connect timers
Ads are the default funding source, and the banner is the least of it. The kit behind it receives device identifiers; VPN - Super Unlimited Proxy names ten ad partners (AdMob, IronSource, Unity, Meta and others), shares geolocation with them and counts that as a "sale" under CCPA. Per a 2016 study of 283 Android VPN apps, 67% embedded third-party trackers. Nine of the 68 tie your connection to rewarded ads: watch a clip, earn minutes. On SkyVPN, Touch VPN and VPN - Super Unlimited Proxy, blocking the ads can cost you free access entirely; readers who want unmetered data without ads can use the site's list of ad-free free VPNs.
Speed caps and fair-use clauses
An unmetered allowance means little over a narrow pipe. Shellfire offers two locations capped near a single megabit; RelyVPN grants one initial 300 MB allowance at top speed, then settles at 160 kbps. Shecan tops out at 4 Mbps. SkyVPN hedges with "almost unlimited" data and fair use at its own discretion. Read the terms of service before trusting a store listing.
Your connection as the product
Bright VPN routes business traffic through devices that sit idle; Super Free VPN funds itself the same way. VPN Gate runs on volunteer servers whose operators keep packet logs, with no speed guarantee. Hiddify is unlimited only because you supply your own server.
Before you install: a short checklist
- Search the privacy policy for ad SDKs and any "sale" clause.
- Check whether blocking ads breaks the free plan.
- Look for an owner country; 27 of 68 publish none, which hides who can be compelled to hand over data.
- Treat "unlimited" as a claim until the terms agree.
- Find the app in the site's free VPN cost checker and read its confirmed costs: ads, data and speed limits, third-party sharing, IP retention, in-app trackers.
- Install only from the official source: the store listing or the vendor's site, since a repackaged APK gets VPN rights over your entire traffic.
How this page ranks unlimited free VPNs
Price and fair terms count for 40% of the score, privacy takes 21%, security another 14%, censorship bypass 11%, with 7% each for network and apps. Everything rests on published material: audits, policies, prices. No speed tests, no affiliate links. Of the 68 services, 39 have enough public data for the main ranking; the other 29 still appear with scores resting on fewer fields.
Unlimited free VPN FAQ
Is there a truly unlimited free VPN?
On data, yes. The limit lands on speed, locations, devices, ads or terms instead.
Is an unlimited free VPN APK safe?
An official source and a known publisher lower the risk of a swapped APK, but what the app collects is decided by its privacy policy. A mirror-site APK can run any code.
Is there a lifetime free VPN?
A free plan without an expiry date is the practical version; just 1 of the 68 lists a paid lifetime deal.
Short answer: which one fits which use
One ad-free device with no cap: Proton VPN, accepting medium speed and no streaming. Every country at 10 Mbps: OllaVPN, under daily fair-use limits. A 5-day, 5 GB, two-device trial without a card: CitadelVPN. Anything ad-funded trades your attention for bandwidth, and a paid tier starting at €0.85 monthly ends that bargain.
