Lifetime VPN Deals Compared: What a One-Time Payment Really Buys

What a lifetime plan actually buys

Read the label before the price, because "lifetime VPN" covers several different products. A full VPN service (for example FastestVPN or OysterVPN) gives servers, apps and support while the company runs them. A proxy client like Stash, Shadowrocket or Quantumult X is a one-time app licence with no servers included: you import your own configurations, and one wrong character in the key and the connection is dead. Deeper Network sells a hardware VPN router for $299–424, replacing the subscription with a device purchase. Internxt bundles a Chrome VPN extension with cloud storage at €380–780, and InviZible Pro is an open-source Android app bundling Tor and DNSCrypt, with Premium for a donation from $5. Smart DNS by itself only changes the region streaming sites see and does not encrypt traffic; Getflix ($149) and SmartDNS Proxy ($200) add a VPN to the paid plan.

The three highest-scoring lifetime VPNs

Each leader has a different weak spot. FastestVPN publishes no stealth mode, so it is a weak pick on networks that block VPNs and scores zero on censorship bypass. IceVPN contradicts itself between two of its own pages on refunds. SwizzVPN is sold only through an Apple in-app purchase, runs OpenVPN only and exists solely on macOS, iOS and Apple TV. FastestVPN (Altius IT) is the only one of the 22 with an independent no-logs audit.

When paying once pays off

The break-even point is the lifetime price divided by the provider's own twelve-month rate.

FastestVPN's $40 lifetime costs about the same as its own 3-year plan ($39.95). A break-even under two years is easy to justify; IceVPN's $249 means betting the company honours your account for seven years of $2.99-months.

The risks of a lifetime subscription and how to reduce them

"Lifetime" describes the lifetime of the service or company, not yours. PCMag has documented lifetime accounts not honoured after a change of owner, and dormant accounts closed without notice. A one-time payment also stops funding servers and support, so the provider's incentive to keep you weakens over the years. Your protections: the money-back window, published by only 9 of 22 (FastestVPN excludes crypto payments, Stash makes all sales final once the licence key is issued) and the store rules if you bought through Apple's or Google's shop, which is the case for at least 10 of these services. Use that refund period as your true test: install everywhere, test your usual sites, and claim your money back within the deadline if something fails. If you'd rather pay per term with no auto-renewal instead of a lifetime promise, there is such a list too.

How this ranking orders lifetime deals

Price and terms carry 40% of the page score, privacy 21%, security 14%, censorship bypass 11%, network and apps 7% each. The cheapest one-off app purchases (a few dollars or euros) sit low because they publish little about refunds, devices or who runs the business. Five of the 22 don't even state where they are registered.

FAQ

Short answer

A lifetime VPN is worth buying when the one-off price equals no more than two years of that company's annual plan, a month-long refund is guaranteed, and the operator publishes its identity and logging practices. Anything store-only, unaudited and break-even years away is a bet on the provider outliving your devices.
