Egypt VPN for Free: Permanent Plans, Trials and Bring-Your-Own-Server Apps
Free access comes in four shapes, and each fails differently. A short trial with strong disguise covers a stay of a few days. A permanent plan has no end date but often allows a single device. Across all 111 entries on the VPNRadarLab list, every "works there" claim is the vendor's own, and no entry names Egypt as a supported country. Read more

Four kinds of free access, and what each one takes from you
| Kind of access | What you get | Examples (place on the list) | The hidden cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Time-limited trial | full product for days, then it stops | CitadelVPN (1st), VPNEU (6th), Fexyn (11th) | a deadline, a data ceiling, sometimes a card |
| Permanent free tier | basic service with no expiry | Proton VPN (2nd), Hide.me (31st), ArgoVPN (27th) | often one device, fewer locations, slower speed on some |
| Ad-funded app | free tier paid for by adverts, sometimes data per advert watched | X-VPN (3rd), DOG VPN (37th), VPNServerHub (38th) | ad SDKs on the phone, screen time |
| Client without servers | an empty app shell you feed a key | Hiddify (8th), v2rayNG (24th), MahsaNG (19th) | you find the server yourself |
The three leaders compared
| CitadelVPN | Proton VPN | X-VPN | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Score / bypass | 8.55 / 8.1 | 5.02 / 2.4 | 4.83 / 1.9 |
| Free offer | 5-day trial, 5 GB, once per account | permanent plan, uncapped data | permanent Basic tier |
| Devices | up to 2 | 1 | not published |
| Sign-up | no email | email required | no account |
| Ads | none | none | AdMob, InMobi, Chartboost, Liftoff |
| Disguise | VLESS, Hysteria2, Trojan, Shadowsocks, AmneziaWG | Stealth, alternative routing | obfuscation plus Everest |
| Jurisdiction | Panama | Switzerland | Singapore |
| Paid from / refund | €1.38 / 14 days | €3 / 30 days | €2.57 / 30 days (crypto non-refundable) |
What each offer costs you in practice
All three publish a kill switch and some external no-logs check, so the gaps lie elsewhere. The trial from CitadelVPN is alone among the three in carrying proxy protocols, but it ends on day six or after 5 GB, whichever hits first, and you cannot repeat it. Proton never meters data, yet its disguise is limited to Stealth and alternative routing, none of the proxy protocols, so bypass lands at 2.4. X-VPN skips registration entirely, but it never states how much free data you get, and four ad networks finance the tier.
Matching the option to your stay
A week in Sharm fits inside a card-free trial like VPNEU's 14 days on one device (limited speed and servers) or DuneVPN's 7 days. A month stretches any trial, so a permanent tier becomes the realistic path: Hide.me offers unlimited data at reduced speed on 8 locations, ArgoVPN promises unlimited data with no time caps. Long stays are where free breaks down: StelsVPN gives 300 MB a day and AtmosVPN 10 GB a month at 10 Mbps on one device, both tight for anything longer. Store trials at SwizzVPN, 7VPN, VPN Fast and VPN Proxy Master - Safer Vpn take a payment method, and VPN Fast warns its trial renews itself.
Why disguise decides the choice
Egyptian networks can filter plain WireGuard and OpenVPN with DPI, and these two are everywhere on the list, published by 50 and 49 services respectively. The rarer protocols pass as ordinary traffic: Shadowsocks on 37 services, VLESS on 22, Hysteria2 on 17, AmneziaWG on just 4. A big data allowance will not help if the handshake dies on first contact, which is why bypass carries 40% of the page score. For what specifically gets blocked, see the main Egypt ranking.
Bring-your-own-server apps: strong on bypass, no network included
Hiddify, v2rayNG, V2Box, Npv Tunnel and Karing score up to 7.1 on bypass because they handle modern proxy protocols. None of them carries its own servers, and none of them is in the main ranking. You paste a subscription or key from your provider or your own machine; one wrong character and nothing connects. MahsaNG rotates donated configs, useful until they stop working. Download Hiddify via its official GitHub releases, not a store look-alike.
After an Egyptian IP from abroad
Five services list an Egyptian location (Hide.me in Cairo, Hotspot Shield, Turbo VPN, Pro Gamer VPN, Tcpvpn), yet not one calls that spot part of the free tier. That job belongs to the Egypt servers list, not this page.
FAQ
Do any free VPNs claim to work in Egypt?
None of the 111 names Egypt among countries where it says it works; only 20 name any country at all.
Do trials ask for a card?
16 services say no, 7 say yes, and 88 do not publish it either way.
Which free option has no ads and no data cap?
Proton's permanent plan, limited to one device and servers chosen by Proton.
What to install before departure
Install two apps before flying: a short trial with VLESS or Hysteria2 for the important days, plus a permanent tier as the fallback. Turn on the kill switch (44 services publish one), keep a spare config offline, and expect to pay if the trip exceeds a few weeks; paid plans here begin at €0.71 a month with a median of €2.80.
