Avast SecureLine VPN user reviews: what customers report

1,656 reviews of Avast SecureLine VPN collected from Trustpilot, App Store and Google Play. Most come from App Store: 3.35 of 5 after smoothing. Reviews never change our score.

Ratings by source

Smoothed: a source’s average across all VPNs counts as 50 extra reviews, so a few five-star reviews cannot outrank thousands.

Two sources that tell different stories

We collected 1,656 reviews, of which 1,456 come from the App Store, where the VPN has its own app. There, after smoothing, the score is 3.35 out of 5, and over the last 90 days it is 2.46 based on 28 reviews. The average has been falling over the years: in 2015 it was around 3.9, and in 2025 it was 2.34. Another 200 reviews on Trustpilot refer to the avast.com profile as a whole, and there people mostly write about the antivirus. The platforms themselves show higher figures: 4.66 in the US App Store across 23,777 ratings and 4.3 on Trustpilot.

The main complaint: connections and updates

By a rough keyword count, almost half of the one- and two-star reviews in the App Store are about connectivity: the VPN fails to connect, drops out, or slows down. Over the past year, more than half of the negative reviews mention this, and another one in five concerns updates. After the September update, users report that restoring a purchase does not work and a paid subscription will not open. Another problem keeps recurring on the iPhone: the app repeatedly asks to allow the VPN configuration, and the Allow button changes nothing.

Money and support

On Trustpilot, more than half of the negative reviews are about charges, auto-renewal, cancellation and refunds, and about a quarter are about support, which is hard to reach. Almost all of these stories concern Avast antivirus subscriptions, but VPN renewal works the same way: it is enabled by default, and each year after the first term costs $99.99. How to switch it off in advance is described on the page about cancelling a subscription. The company has not replied to any of the 48 negative reviews we collected on Trustpilot or the 528 in the App Store.

What people praise

Happy users write that the app runs reliably for years and is easy to use. Reviews do not affect our score. Reviews of another service from the same owner are collected on the page of Norton VPN reviews.
