How long it lasts and where it's available

Avast offers a 60-day trial period in its apps for Windows, Mac, Android and iOS. There's no Linux app, so you can't try the service there. In the Avast One app the VPN is currently called Premium VPN, so look for that name in the store and in your account. A subscription covers 10 devices at once, so you can test the trial access on your phone and laptop right away.

Card and first charge

A bank card is required to sign up. At checkout you're charged $0, and once the trial days end Avast charges you automatically: auto-renewal is on by default. The service doesn't specify on the page which plan kicks in after the trial, so it's best to check the amount on the payment screen. For reference: a year costs $59.88, two years $95.76, three years $143.64. After that, the subscription renews at the current price: Avast states $99.99 per year and warns that prices may go up. The renewal payment may be taken up to 35 days before the subscription's anniversary.

How to avoid paying extra

Cancellation is done in Avast Account. If the service isn't right for you, turn off renewal before the 60 days are up. The steps are described on the page how to cancel Avast SecureLine VPN. If you've already been charged, there's a money-back guarantee: claims are accepted within 30 days of the purchase or renewal date.

Can you try it without a card?

No, a card is required either way. Services without this requirement are collected in our roundup of free trials without a card.

Is the trial good for streaming?

You can test it, but Avast doesn't claim Netflix support and has no dedicated streaming servers. There are dedicated P2P servers for torrents.
