PureVPN user reviews: support gets the praise, the apps get the complaints

2,147 reviews of PureVPN collected from Trustpilot, App Store and Google Play. Most come from App Store: 3.09 of 5 after smoothing. Reviews never change our score.

Ratings by source

Smoothed: a source’s average across all VPNs counts as 50 extra reviews, so a few five-star reviews cannot outrank thousands.

On Reddit and forums

48 Reddit and forum threads mention PureVPN (we keep titles and search snippets only).

Trustpilot reviewers of PureVPN are mostly happy, and their praise centres on helpful support agents, while the few complaints there are mostly about money. Written App Store and Google Play reviews are far less kind: the app sits below the all-VPN average on both platforms, and one- and two-star texts point at two things, a connection that fails or crawls, and money, meaning renewals, trial charges and refunds. None of this affects the VPNRadarLab score of 5.3 out of 10, built only from published facts.

PureVPN ratings on Trustpilot, the App Store and Google Play

Source Sample Smoothed average All-VPN average Negative Replied to
Trustpilot 200 4.36 / 5 3.66 19 11
App Store 1,147 3.09 / 5 3.54 529 none recorded
Google Play 800 3.08 / 5 3.90 376 285

Smoothing adds each source's all-VPN average as 50 extra reviews, so a small Trustpilot sample cannot outshout a big store one. Platform headline figures blend in star-only taps: the TrustScore of 4.4 from 15,691 reviews sits above the smoothed 4.36, and the US App Store listing shows 4.36 from 7,937 ratings while written US App Store reviews average 3.55. Store fronts differ too: the UK is the lowest at 2.61, Germany 2.87. On Android, German-language reviews (3.11) edge out English ones (2.94).

Why PureVPN gets one- and two-star reviews

The shares are approximate keyword counts matched automatically in English and German plus a few other languages, and one review can touch several themes. Trustpilot has only 19 negative reviews, so its shares rest on a handful of posts.

Complaint theme App Store Google Play Trustpilot
Connection, speed, app not working ~60% ~35% ~16%
Billing: charges, renewals, refunds ~24% ~23% ~68%
Support ~15% ~11% ~53%
Named country where it failed ~9% ~3% 0%

Two reasons dominate. The app: a phone reviewer rates the moment the tunnel drops, and about 9% of App Store complainers name a country where it failed, most often China. Money is the second: 13 of the 19 negative Trustpilot reviews are about billing such as charges, renewals and refunds.

Renewals, the 7-day trial and refunds behind the billing anger

Auto-renewal is on by default, the intro deal covers only the first term, and the plan then renews yearly at a rate 1.86 times higher, the exact "charged again" story that recurs in reviews. The 7-day trial converts to a paid plan, and renewals that start from a trial are not refundable. The 31-day money-back window runs from the first purchase only and excludes renewals, trial-based renewals, crypto payments through CoinPayments and anything bought inside the App Store or Google Play, which explains part of the refund fury from mobile buyers. To cancel, switch off auto-renewal in the member area, write to live chat or email.

What satisfied PureVPN users praise

Trustpilot's four- and five-star reviews are mostly about people: roughly 46% mention support, live chat or a helpful agent, and most "fast" mentions there mean a problem fixed quickly. In the app stores the praise shifts to the product itself, speed above all (about 18% on the App Store, 16% on Google Play) and ease of use behind it. Many five-star store reviews are a few words long; 104 of 391 positive Google Play reviews and 69 of 575 on the App Store are shorter than 15 characters.

Are PureVPN reviews getting better?

Recent months say yes. Monthly averages across the sample hovered between 2.4 and 3.3 from October 2025 to June 2026, then climbed to 3.80 in July, 4.46 in August and about 4.56 in September and October, lifted by the fresh Trustpilot wave and kinder new Google Play reviews, whose last-90-day average of 4.03 beats the long-run 3.08 by a wide margin. Old, harsh App Store reviews still pull that sample down: only 13 come from the last 90 days, averaging 3.46 against the all-time 3.07.

Forum threads and the score without reviews

Forum discussions ask whether the service is worth paying for, where the cancel option hides and why they were charged once the trial ended; the connection complaints that dominate the app stores surface there too. The VPNRadarLab score of 5.3, 7th in the main ranking, ignores reviews and reads only published facts: platforms (9) and the network (7.6) are strong, bypass scores 1.9 because obfuscated servers are listed but no other anti-censorship protocols are, and security gets 4.3 with no published security audit, open-source apps, RAM-only servers or 2FA. The KPMG no-logs audit helps privacy (5.7); no warrant canary and the email required at sign-up hold it back.

FAQ

Is PureVPN legit according to its users?

Trustpilot reviewers largely say yes and praise the support. Mobile reviewers are split roughly down the middle.

Why does the App Store listing look better than the written reviews?

The listing counts silent star taps alongside written reviews; the written ones alone average 3.07.

Does PureVPN reply to bad reviews?

On Google Play it replied to 285 of 376 negative reviews and to 11 of 19 on Trustpilot. In the App Store, no reply is recorded.

Can I get a refund if I bought through the App Store?

Not from PureVPN: app-store purchases fall outside the 31-day money-back guarantee.

PureVPN user feedback in short

Trustpilot users mostly applaud the support team. Mobile reviewers divide between good and bad and cite connection failures ahead of billing. The money complaints trace back to auto-renewal, the trial turning into a paid plan and the refund exclusions. Newer reviews score higher than older ones, and no review changes the 5.3 rating.
