AVG Secure VPN refund policy: how to ask for your money back

AVG Secure VPN is only sold on plans of a year or longer, so the rule for annual subscriptions from AVG's general cancellation and refund policy applies: a full refund if you ask within 30 days of purchase. According to AVG, requests are usually processed within a few days.

Renewals can be refunded too

The subscription renews automatically, and the renewal price is noticeably higher than the first term. Every subsequent annual charge is also fully refunded by AVG if you request it within 30 days of the charge date. In Germany, the Netherlands and the UK, after those 30 days you can get a partial refund for a renewal, covering the remaining full months, while in Quebec the proration is calculated by days. In the EU, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein and the UK, there is also a separate legal right to withdraw from the contract within 14 days.

When refunds are not given

A purchase through the App Store, Google Play or another seller follows that seller's rules, and AVG may decline the refund. AVG does not refund a repeat purchase of something that has already been refunded. After the free trial, if you entered a payment method when signing up and did not cancel the subscription, the first annual charge can also be refunded within 30 days.

How to submit a request

Sign in to your AVG Account with the email address used at purchase, open the order history and click Request a refund next to the order. The button only appears for orders eligible for a refund, and the request is then completed in a chat with support. There is a second route: the request form on the support site. You will need the order number, serial number or product key. The money is returned to the same payment method: to cards and PayPal within up to 7 business days, and by other methods within up to 14.
