How much the first term costs

On the US page of AVG, prices are in dollars: one year $53.88 ($4.49 per month), two years $105.36, three years $158.04 (both at $4.39 per month). Prices vary by country, and AVG runs separate regional sites. The third year of the three-year plan adds only $52.68 on top, which makes the two-year term almost pointless. The service calculates its 51-52% discount against the renewal price of $109.99 per year.

What happens at renewal

The subscription renews automatically, and after the first term each year costs $109.99, which is about €7.88 per month, or 2.1 times more than the first term. Over three years, the one-year plan with two renewals will cost around €236, the two-year plan with one renewal €185, and the three-year plan €136 with no renewals. Anyone who does not want to pay $109.99 after a year should cancel the subscription before the next billing date.

Trial and payment

AVG offers a 60-day trial on Windows, macOS, Android and iOS with $0 charged at sign-up. Whether a card is required, the service does not say. A separate 30-day money-back guarantee applies (refund terms). The service does not accept cryptocurrency or cash, and there is no free or family plan. A dedicated IP and other VPN add-ons are not sold, and AVG antivirus is purchased separately.
