Aura does not sell the VPN on its own. It comes with the identity protection plan for $12 per month billed annually or $15 month to month, and the price includes identity theft insurance, credit monitoring, and data removal from brokers. Our score of 2.14 out of 10 and its 235th place out of 377 cover the VPN only. If you don't need the rest, you're paying for the whole bundle: six similar services in the list above cost from €2.15 per month.

McAfee VPN: higher score, pricier renewal

McAfee VPN scores 3.19, the best result in the list. The difference comes down to privacy: McAfee claims an independent no-logs audit, though it cites the TunnelBear blog as proof, and states that it does not log connection IPs. Aura logs session duration and traffic volume, and has no audit. McAfee's catch is the price: the basic plan for one device costs $29.99 for the first year and renews at $89.99. The trial requires a card, and the VPN is capped at 500 MB per month during it. Both cards sit side by side in the McAfee VPN vs Aura VPN comparison.

Webroot WiFi Security: a longer refund window

Webroot WiFi Security costs $35.99 for the first year on three devices and gives you 70 days for a refund, versus 60 for Aura's annual plan. It claims more than 6000 servers in over 65 countries. Webroot does not publish its renewal price. Support chat is available only to those who bought a subscription through Best Buy, and split tunneling does not work on Apple devices.

When is it better to stay with Aura?

When you already need identity protection in the US: then you have to compare the whole bundle. Aura offers 10 devices per adult, around 80 countries, and torrents on all servers. None of the six services in the list has a Linux app or a free tier, so switching gains you nothing on those counts.
