IVPN not working? Common causes and what to check

Switch protocol in the app: IVPN lists WireGuard, OpenVPN, IKEv2, VMess, obfs4.
If the network blocks VPNs, turn on obfuscation (V2Ray, obfs4).

Check server status and the protocol first
If IVPN suddenly stops connecting for everyone at once, the cause is usually on the service side. The status page lives on the site at /en/status/, and that is the right place to start. If the servers are fine, switch the protocol in the app: IVPN supports WireGuard, OpenVPN and IKEv2. The network of 80 gateways across 41 countries is small, so if one location fails it is easier to pick a neighboring country than to wait. After a connection drop, the internet may go down completely: that is the kill switch working on Windows, macOS, Linux and Android. It waits until the tunnel comes back.
If the network blocks VPN
On networks with filtering, plain WireGuard is often cut off. For this, IVPN offers obfuscation in two forms: V2Ray (VMess over QUIC or TCP) and obfs4. obfs4 works only with OpenVPN and only in the desktop apps. The service does not support VLESS/Reality, Shadowsocks, Trojan or Hysteria2, and for Russia it warns on its own site that connectivity is not guaranteed and suggests starting with the weekly plan. A site or app won't open while the VPN is on
IVPN makes no promises about streaming: there are no claims about Netflix, BBC iPlayer, Disney+ or Prime Video, and no dedicated servers for them either. If a single app fails, you can route it outside the tunnel with split tunneling on Windows, Linux and Android. The built-in AntiTracker blocker sometimes breaks individual sites, so turn it off to test. Support answers through a form and email; there is no phone line.
