How to cancel Urban VPN and turn off auto-renewal
How Urban VPN says you cancel: app store (mobile/Mac); Urban VPN Account Console (Windows/extension). Auto-renewal by default: yes.
Cancellation and renewal
- Auto-renewal by default
- Yes
- Reminder before renewal
- Not stated
- Renewal note
- Auto-renews; cancel anytime to stop future recurring charges; renewal price not stated
- Bought in App Store or Google Play
- cancel in the store’s subscription settings
What renewal costs
| Plan | First payment |
|---|---|
| Premium, 1 mo | €11.17 |
| Premium, 6 mo | €36.02 |
| Premium, 12 mo | €51.08 |
Urban VPN Premium renews automatically, and the terms state only one thing: you can cancel at any time, and future charges will stop. Where exactly you click depends on who you paid through. Deleting the app or the extension does not stop the subscription.
Purchase through the App Store or Google Play
On iPhone, iPad, Mac and Android, you cancel the subscription in the store's subscription settings; the Urban VPN app is not involved. This also applies to the 3-day trial: it runs only through the store, a card is already attached to it, and you need to cancel no later than 24 hours before the trial ends. Otherwise the store will charge you for the annual plan, $59.40.
Purchase on the website
If Premium was purchased on the website for Windows or for the browser extension, turn off renewal in the Urban VPN Account Console dashboard. Payments on the website go through Paddle, so the charge on your bank statement may show that name rather than Urban VPN. If you do not remember where you set up the subscription, find the receipt from your first payment: it shows who took the money.
How much the renewal will cost
The first payment is known: $12.99 for a month, $41.88 for six months, $59.40 for a year. Urban VPN does not state the renewal price for any plan length, and says nothing about a reminder before the charge. Set a renewal reminder a couple of days before the date. Getting your money back after a charge is difficult: the service contradicts itself, with details in the Urban VPN refund section.
Does the free version remain after cancelling?
The free extensions and the apps for Windows and Android work without an account, so you can keep using them. The service does not say whether the Premium account itself switches to the free plan.
