Who owns Urban VPN? Company, jurisdiction and related brands

Urban VPN is published by Urban Cyber Security Inc., a company registered in the state of Delaware under number 10158667, with the address 1007 N Orange St, Wilmington, listed in its documents. That is the legal side. What matters more is what stands behind it.

A parent company without a name

The privacy policy describes the parent company as a data broker and leaves out its name. Raw data goes to it and to affiliated companies, while behavioral segments built from browsing history are sold to advertising and analytics clients. Journalists supplied the name: Infosecurity Magazine, citing research by Koi, reports that Urban Cyber Security is linked to the data broker BiScience. The service itself does not disclose this connection anywhere on its pages.

One publisher, many extensions

The same publisher also releases Urban VPN Proxy, Urban Adblocker, Urban Safe Browsing, Urban Browser Guard, Travel VPN and Hide My IP. Switching to a "neighboring" extension from the same publisher does not protect you from data collection: according to Koi, the same code for harvesting conversations with AI chats was found in seven more extensions from this publisher, including VPNs, ad blockers and browser protection tools.

Jurisdiction

The company operates under US law, and the US is a member of the Five Eyes alliance. The privacy policy promises to comply with government requests to the extent the law allows or requires. There is no transparency report and no warrant canary, so there is no way to find out how many such requests there have been.
