Why the App Store shows two different scores
The App Store shows BearVPN at 4.77 from almost 11 thousand ratings, while the average across the 161 written reviews we collected is just 2.70. The showcase figure includes star ratings without text, and written reviews tend to come from people who ran into a problem. Almost all the reviews concern the free mobile version and are written in Russian. Trustpilot has only two reviews.
The two main complaints
The first and most common one: the app stops connecting. The pattern repeats: everything worked for several weeks or months, then an update brings a connection error, and after that the VPN will not turn on at all. One reviewer paid for a two-year subscription, the service stopped working a week later, and support never replied. If you are considering a long-term plan, check the BearVPN refund terms first: the deadline there depends on the length of the subscription.
The second complaint: ads in the free version. Users describe several videos in a row before connecting, and being taken to the App Store when tapping the close button. Some say the ads appeared after an update, and that the app used to be the best they had tried.
What people praise
Positive reviews are short: the VPN connects quickly, opens YouTube and TikTok, and works with no setup. Even these contain caveats about slow loading, ads, and messengers that stop delivering messages while the VPN is on.
