NymVPN alternatives: similar VPNs ranked by our score

Why every alternative scores below NymVPN

NymVPN scores 4.97 out of 10 and ranks 10th out of 377, while the best decentralized replacement, Mysterium Network, scores 4.02. The gap comes down to privacy and security: NymVPN lets you sign up without email using a 24-word passphrase, accepts cash and cryptocurrency, keeps its app code open, has passed a Cure53 audit, and added post-quantum key exchange. Switching services only makes sense for one specific thing: a free plan or traffic obfuscation, which NymVPN still lists as a feature in development.

Mysterium: more countries, less privacy

Mysterium Network and Mysterium VPN run on the same network: the protocol is developed by the Swiss BlockDev AG, while the app is released by a Lithuanian company, which is why our site lists them separately, with scores of 4.02 and 3.73. Mysterium Network covers 108 countries, offers more than 7,500 residential IP addresses on the Plus and Pro plans, round-the-clock chat, and a two-year plan from $2.59 per month. The price for this: email registration, collection of session times and traffic volumes under the privacy policy, and advertising trackers on the website. The refund period is inconsistent: the site promises 30 days, the terms of use give 7 days, and the EU gets 14.

Norse Labs DVPN: a free plan and short terms

Norse Labs DVPN from Estonia (3.5) runs on the Sentinel network. Several locations are free to use, with no registration or card required, and the paid DVPN Plus can be bought for a week for $0.99. Norse Labs says it offers traffic obfuscation. The weak spot is security, 1.1 out of 10: the service does not say whether there is a kill switch or DNS leak protection. Norse Labs does not refund crypto payments.

URnetwork (2.75) gives you 30 GiB per day for free on two devices, but the company is registered in the US, inside 5 Eyes, and reports nothing about traffic obfuscation. All decentralized services are collected in the dVPN ranking.
