Who owns NymVPN: Nym Technologies, founders and investors

NymVPN is run by Nym Technologies SA, a Swiss company based in Neuchâtel with registration number CHE-367.426.629. Our records show no parent structure above it; the brand belongs to the company itself. The company's other products are also connected to the VPN: the Nym network, the $NYM token and the Nyx blockchain.

Founders and investors

The company was founded by Harry Halpin, now the CEO and previously a research scientist at MIT, and Alexis Roussel, the COO, who before Nym founded the Swiss crypto broker Bity. The first mixnet nodes went live in 2019 at the Chaos Communication Congress. In 2021, Nym raised $6.5 million in a round led by Polychain Capital, and in November of the same year another $13 million in a round led by Andreessen Horowitz's crypto fund. According to Forbes figures cited by TechCrunch, that round valued the company at around $270 million.

Who runs the nodes

The company owns no servers of its own. More than 800 nodes in over 70 countries are run by independent operators, and their contracts oblige them not to keep logs. The owner of the brand and the owners of the nodes that carry your traffic are therefore different parties. The $NYM token is also part of payments: you can pay for a subscription with it at a discount of up to 75%.

Jurisdiction

Switzerland is not part of the 5/9/14 Eyes alliances. The company complies with lawful requests from Swiss authorities, and in its view foreign authorities have no power to make such requests.
