We collected 1,569 reviews of Astrill VPN from Trustpilot, the App Store and Google Play. On all three platforms the service scores noticeably below the VPN average: after smoothing, 2.13 out of 5 on Trustpilot, 2.31 in the App Store and 2.58 in Google Play, while the averages across all VPNs range from 3.54 to 3.90. User reviews do not affect our score of the service.
What people complain about
Two issues keep coming up in recent reviews. The first is connectivity. Users write that the app is unstable, loads pages slowly or fails to connect at all, and one review on Trustpilot says outright that the VPN did not work in China. What to check in that case is covered on our Astrill VPN won't connect page. The second is money. The cheapest month costs $30, there is no trial period, and some people leave a one-star review without even buying a subscription. All sales at Astrill are final, so reviewers call a purchase that did not work out a waste of money.
Ratings are getting worse
Over the last 90 days the average has dropped on every platform: 1.00 on Trustpilot based on 10 reviews, 1.87 in the App Store based on 54, and 2.28 in Google Play based on 29. Month by month, the best result of the year was in October 2025 at 2.83, while in October 2026 the average is 1.62.
Why the numbers differ between platforms
The US App Store shows 3.69 based on 704 ratings, Google Play shows 2.8 based on 7.76K ratings with more than a million installs, and Trustpilot shows 1.3. Store ratings also include star-only ratings without text, while we count written reviews from different countries.
