Astrill VPN is one of the most expensive services in our ranking. The cheapest entry, €10.75 per month, requires paying for two years upfront. The median across the main ranking is €3.13 per month, so even Astrill's long-term plan costs more than three times as much. For its price and terms, the service gets 1.3 out of 10: an expensive plan, no trial period, no free plan and no money-back guarantee. It picks up a few points for crypto payment and five devices.
Month, year or two years
The personal plan costs $30 per month, $180 per year and $300 for two years. Twelve monthly payments come to $360, twice as much as the yearly plan, and paying month by month for three years adds up to €928.80. The monthly plan only makes sense as a trial before committing to a longer payment. On the pricing page, the yearly and two-year plans are labeled "Billed every year / every 2 years" at the same price, with no other fine print. The service does not publish a separate renewal price, so our table shows a dash after the first term. Prices are shown in dollars only; the euro figures on this page are our conversion.
What you will have to buy extra
The basic plan does not include some features. Multi-hop, traffic prioritization and low latency for Asia are sold in the VIP add-on from $10 per month, with packages from 100 to 1000 GB. With it, even the two-year plan starts at $22.5 per month. A dedicated IP and port forwarding are also sold separately, and the service does not show their price. A ready-made router with the Astrill app is purchased separately, and express shipping costs another $50.
Astrill is inconsistent about the number of devices: the homepage says five simultaneous connections, while the pricing page says an unlimited number of devices in one household. You can pay by card, via PayPal, Bitcoin, Monero or bank transfer. There is no discount for paying with crypto, and the service does not accept Apple Pay or Google Pay.
