Astrill VPN ranks 158th out of 377 with a score of 2.68 out of 10. Its strengths are clear: the proprietary StealthVPN protocol for networks with blocking, a 24/7 chat, and ready-made routers. People usually leave over the payment terms. All sales are final, there is no money-back guarantee, and a month costs $30. It scores 1.3 on privacy: the service stores the last 20 connections with time, duration, country, and device, and there is no independent audit.
Same price, higher score: BTC VPN
BTC VPN scores 4.51 and costs from €10.31 per month, almost the same as Astrill (€10.75). It offers a 30-day refund, auto-renewal is off by default under the service's terms, and it claims traffic masking and Double VPN. The catch is verifiability: a no-logs audit by PwC is only claimed, with no link to the report. The service was founded in 2025, and there is little data on it so far.
Cheaper: CopVPN and Namecheap FastVPN
CopVPN costs from €1.28 per month on the five-year plan, offers a 30-day refund, and does not limit the number of devices. Namecheap FastVPN comes to €0.86 per month for the first year, but renewal is 2.88 times more expensive: $34.56 per year. Both companies are based in the US, a 5 Eyes alliance member. Both score 1.9 for bypassing blocking against Astrill's 2.4: masking is available, but neither claims its own protocol for bypassing, like StealthVPN. FastVPN (Namecheap) sits lower in the ranking: it is the same service under the same owner.
Is there an alternative with a refund and no alliances?
12VPN is registered in Panama, offers a 14-day refund, and has a free plan. The price is close to Astrill, from €9.45 per month, but there is no 24/7 chat. On the plus side, it claims support for Netflix and Disney+, statements Astrill does not make.
