Indian VPN Companies: Providers Registered in India, Ranked

The "Indian VPN" label on VPNRadarLab describes where the company is incorporated, not where its servers sit. It covers ten small services, from AtmosVPN at the top (page score 3.94) through V3VPN (3.37) and Rethink DNS + Firewall (3.01) down to a cluster of free mobile apps. If you want an Indian IP address, that comes from the server location; the matching list of providers with servers in India lives elsewhere. A firm incorporated in India falls under Indian law wherever it rents racks. Read more

What counts as an Indian VPN here

This page filters by jurisdiction: a Singapore-incorporated brand with a Mumbai exit node is excluded, while an Indian-registered company stays on the list even if all its servers stood abroad. Half the entries are consumer VPN subscriptions, the other half free or mobile-only apps; two (Power VPN and VPN Ultra) publish too little to be ranked. The page score weights privacy at roughly 45%, security at 16%, price and censorship bypass at 12% each, network and apps at 8% each.

How the IT Act and CERT-In reach the company itself

Under section 70B(6) of the IT Act, CERT-In's directions of 28 April 2022 turn a consumer VPN into something close to a KYC service: the provider must record validated names, addresses and phone numbers, the email, the IP and timestamp used at registration, the purpose and period of use, and hold it all at least five years after the account closes. System logs stay for 180 days, cyber incidents must be reported within six hours, and non-compliance carries up to a year of imprisonment under section 70B(7). Enterprise VPNs are exempt. The clause-by-clause analysis by Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas walks through each requirement.

A foreign brand can pull its servers out of India, as several announced in 2022. An Indian-registered company cannot escape its own jurisdiction. Hence the tension: nine of the ten claim a no-logs policy, yet the directions require five-year subscriber retention. Only one (V3VPN) is even credited with an outside no-logs audit, and it names no auditor, while not a single service publishes a security audit.

Where each of the three falls short

All three claim no activity logging, each with a specific weakness. AtmosVPN earns the best privacy sub-index (4.3) but runs only 7 countries and offers no Windows or macOS app. V3VPN's refund guarantee covers only unresolved technical issues and duplicate charges, its policy allows detailed records to be handed to authorities on legal demand, and its bypass score is zero. Rethink, whose policy states the app collects nothing (crash reports only in the Play build), is a DNS and firewall tool for Android with optional WireGuard routing and a paid proxy layer built with Windscribe; it is a privacy utility, not a classic VPN subscription.

The other seven at a glance

VPNServerHub holds the strongest bypass on the page (4.3, thanks to Trojan, Shadowsocks, VMess and exportable configs) yet logs connect and disconnect times and total bandwidth. Systweak VPN, from a Jaipur software house with copyright records going back to 1999, works on Windows alone at $5.95 a month on a 12-month plan. Ryn VPN sells the cheapest annual plan (€1.44 a month) while scoring lowest on privacy: device IP addresses can land in error logs. Smaller free apps fill out the rest.

Should you pick an Indian provider at all

Low prices (from €1.44 a month, median €2.92) and free tiers at nine of the ten make these services fine for ordinary protection on hotel or café networks. If your privacy concerns include the Indian state, pick a company incorporated abroad instead; the rankings by country of registration are built for that comparison. For an Indian IP for banking or streaming from abroad, go to the providers with servers in India.

FAQ

Is an Indian VPN company forced to keep logs?

Under the directions CERT-In issued in April 2022, a consumer provider has to retain subscriber identity records for at least five years after account closure. A no-logs claim covers traffic, not that register.

Does an Indian VPN give me an Indian IP?

Only if it runs servers in India. Registration and server location are separate things.

Is any Indian VPN audited?

One (V3VPN) says its no-logs policy was checked independently yet names no auditor; not one has published a security audit.

Short answer on Indian VPN companies

AtmosVPN, V3VPN and Rethink DNS + Firewall lead this small field of Indian-registered services, all of them subject to the IT Act and CERT-In retention rules. V3VPN alone claims an independently checked no-logs policy with no auditor named, and no service publishes a security audit behind its privacy promises. These providers fit cheap everyday use; privacy from Indian authorities calls for one incorporated abroad.
