China VPN Free: Reaching a Chinese Server Without a Paid Plan
A free Chinese IP from abroad is doable, though the choice is thin. Two of the nine services ranked here open all or nearly all of their listed locations for nothing: Super Free VPN claims every location on its free account once you register, and VPN Jantit gives out free accounts spanning about 70 countries on its server list. The rest either put China behind a paywall or say nothing about what the free plan covers. Read more

China in the server list is not China on the free tier
A service must have a free plan and list China somewhere in its network, but those are two separate checks. IceVPN proves it: its free tier covers exactly three cities in Japan, the Netherlands and the US, so its China server is paid-only. Pro Gamer VPN, Urban VPN, Reindeer VPN, Tcpvpn, Power VPN and Defend VPN simply never publish their free-tier country list. Check the provider's free-versus-premium page before installing anything; if China is not named there, expect to pay. None of the nine states whether its China location is physical or virtual.
How the leaders compare
The page score leans on value at 40%, with privacy at 21.2%, security at 14.1%, bypass at 10.6%, and network and platforms at 7.1% each. Value carries the most weight, so price, free terms and refunds decide the order.
| Pro Gamer VPN (Next Hour) | VPN Jantit | IceVPN | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Page score | 4.2 | 4.06 | 3.7 |
| Paid entry | €1.44/mo yearly | €0.86 per 30 days | €2.57/mo yearly |
| China on free tier | not published | listed countries | no |
| Free limits | not published | 7 days, 2 devices | 20 GB, 1 device |
| Refund | 7 days, first purchase | points only | 30 days (14 in terms) |
Privacy is the sore spot: VPN Jantit scores 0.3 there because its terms admit VPN logs are used to track bandwidth, devices and connections. Pro Gamer VPN says it is audited annually but names no auditor or year, and keeps its free-plan terms unpublished.
What the free tiers hold back
| Service | Free data or time | Ads | Funding (per own terms) |
|---|---|---|---|
| VPN Jantit | unlimited, account dies after 7 days, recreate (max 2) | site shows third-party ads | not stated |
| IceVPN | 20 GB/month, 1 device | not stated | not stated |
| Urban VPN | unlimited, non-commercial; not on Android | not stated | browsing-derived marketing insights |
| Super Free VPN | unlimited (claim) | no (claim) | your spare bandwidth |
| Reindeer VPN | 10 min per 4 h | not stated | not stated |
| Tcpvpn | expiring accounts plus a speed-limited lifetime one | not stated | not stated |
| Power VPN | unlimited (claim) | yes | not stated |
The funding column matters. The EFF's guide to choosing a VPN explains how free services make money. Urban VPN sells ad clients audience groups inferred from browsing and collects AI chatbot prompts; a December 2025 report found its proxy extension harvesting chatbot conversations. Super Free VPN uses your connection as an exit for other people's business traffic. Both providers describe these models on their own sites.
What a Chinese IP opens, and what it does not
Video, music, shopping and bank portals usually start by checking your IP, and a mainland exit clears the regional lock. It stops there. Sign-ups that need a +86 phone number, a Chinese card or a mainland app-store account stay blocked. A Hong Kong server is not the same region for most mainland platforms.
App, extension or manual config
All nine ship Android builds; Windows and macOS reach six each. Defend VPN is Android-only, and Power VPN lists only an Android app. Browser extensions from Urban VPN and Super Free VPN cover a streaming tab but not a banking app, and on hotel Wi-Fi a kill switch is what stops the leak when the tunnel drops (IceVPN has one, with connection IPs deleted within 15 minutes). VPN Jantit issues accounts for third-party clients such as OpenVPN, WireGuard, VLESS Reality, VMess, Trojan and SSH. Tcpvpn works mostly through manual setup (an Android app client exists) and gives .ovpn config downloads, SSH and WebSocket accounts plus Outline keys.
Paying one euro instead
Daily use makes free tiers pointless fast. VPN Jantit sells 30 days for €0.86 via prepaid points with no auto-renewal, and refunds come as points, not cash. The median paid price across the page is €2.57 a month. For proper apps and a real refund window, the paid services with China servers on VPNRadarLab are the better route. Getting past the Great Firewall from inside China is a different task with its own guide.
FAQ
Is a China server on a free VPN really in mainland China?
None of the nine publishes whether the location is physical or virtual, so there is no way to confirm it from their materials.
Can I watch Chinese streaming on a free plan?
Possibly, but no service here guarantees any specific platform, and a 10-minute-per-4-hours tier ends mid-episode.
Is a free VPN with Chinese servers safe for banking?
Pick one whose terms keep your connection IP out of the logs and do not sell browsing data, and skip bandwidth-sharing models for anything personal.
Quick answer
Only a couple of services on this page open all or nearly all listed locations for free, the funding model matters more than the price of zero, and a sub-euro paid month removes the limits entirely.
