VPN Gate alternatives: similar VPNs ranked by our score
6 alternatives to VPN Gate (1.02) from the same segment, by features, price and owner. Highest: Bitmask (2.00).
VPN Gate is free, requires no registration, and offers more than 3000 volunteer-run servers. The reason to look for a replacement is usually the same one: logs. The central connection log with source IPs is kept for at least 3 months and is handed over upon a police or court request. The detailed breakdown of the risks is on our page about how safe VPN Gate is. All six alternatives are from the same free segment, and none of them scores more than 2 out of 10 with us, so the choice comes down to what matters most to you.
If privacy and censorship bypass come first
Bitmask is closest to VPN Gate in spirit: an open-source client from the LEAP project, with no account or email required. It connects to the providers Riseup and Calyx, which, according to Bitmask, keep no VPN or DNS logs apart from short-term anonymized service logs. There is obfuscation (obfs4 and Snowflake) and external security audits by Cure53 and Security Research Labs. The main limitation: there is no iOS app.
If manual setup suits you
VPNBook is built much like VPN Gate: no registration, shared login and password, OpenVPN and WireGuard configuration files. There are few servers, in 6 countries, and the service itself says it stores connection IPs and times, although it wipes the logs daily or weekly.
Simpler apps
Touch VPN from the US-based Pango Group offers an app with servers in more than 90 countries, but the free version shows ads. WireVPN and Lagom VPN have minimal websites: we could find WireVPN's privacy policy only in the App Store, while Lagom does not name its legal entity and temporarily stores connection IPs. Leaf VPN operates under Chinese jurisdiction, which is a red flag for us. Other free options are collected in our roundup of free VPNs.
