The place to cancel depends on where the money went. A plan bought on the TunnelBear website is stopped in your account: the Overview tab carries the Cancel option. Subscriptions bought in the App Store or Google Play are stopped in those stores' settings, and Teams plans are deactivated by their administrator on the Teams account page, next to the team name. In every case Unlimited keeps working until the end of the period you paid for; once that time is up, the account drops back to the free tier with 2 GB a month.

Which TunnelBear plan you have, and whether it renews

Plan or purchase Renews by itself? Where to stop it
Unlimited 1 Month, website Yes, $10.99 each month Account, Overview tab
Unlimited 1 Year, website Yes, $69.99 per year Account, Overview tab
Unlimited 3 Years ($120 total) No, it simply expires Nothing to cancel
Bought inside the iOS app Yes Apple subscription settings
Bought inside the Android app Yes Google Play subscriptions
TunnelBear Teams ($5.75 per user, min. 2 seats) Yes Teams page, admin only

Renewal amounts stay the same as the original purchase, so the yearly plan bills $69.99 again unless you stop it before the billing date.

Cancelling a plan bought on the TunnelBear website

Website checkout takes only a bank card, processed through Stripe or Link, so every website purchase is managed from the same account page; only the monthly and yearly plans actually recur.

  1. Sign in to your account on the TunnelBear website.
  2. Open the Overview tab.
  3. Click Cancel next to the subscription.
  4. Pick a reason for the "downgrade" when asked, then confirm the cancellation.
  5. Wait about 10 seconds while the downgrade completes; a confirmation email should follow.

That email is your proof. If it never shows up, repeat the steps before the next charge hits. Cancelling itself does not return money already paid; the refund rules are covered on the TunnelBear refund page. The same flow is described in TunnelBear's help article on cancelling.

Subscriptions billed by Apple

Anything bought through the App Store is billed and managed by Apple. On an iPhone or iPad open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, find TunnelBear and cancel. On a Mac, go to the App Store, click your name at the bottom of the sidebar, open Subscriptions and cancel there. The account you are signed into must be the one that paid. No Cancel button, or an expiration date shown in red, means it is already stopped.

Subscriptions billed by Google Play

Android purchases live with Google. In the Play Store app, sign in with the Google account that pays, tap the profile icon, open Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions, choose TunnelBear and confirm the cancellation; Google asks for a reason first. On a computer the same list sits in Google Play subscriptions behind a Manage button. Deleting the app stops nothing: billing continues on the Google account, so cancel the subscription first and remove the app whenever you like. Access lasts for the time already paid, as Google Play's cancellation help explains.

TunnelBear Teams: the administrator's job

A regular member cannot end a team plan. Using the gear icon beside the team's name in the Overview section of the Teams account page, the administrator deactivates the team. Renewal stops there, and whatever data remains on the account can still be used by members.

The account after the last paid day

While Unlimited is paid After it lapses
Monthly data No cap 2 GB
Country or city selection Yes No
Split tunnelling (SplitBear) Yes No
Premium servers Yes No
Priority support Yes No

Two gigabytes cover email, messaging and a bit of browsing; video calls or a working week on a laptop will exhaust it fast. Plan around that before you let the paid period run out.

TunnelBear cancellation questions

Does a three-year plan need cancelling?

No. Multi-year terms are one-off purchases that end on their own, with nothing recurring attached.

Can the free plan charge me later?

No. It costs nothing and has no renewal to watch.

Cancelling TunnelBear, the short version

Website buyers stop their plan in the Overview tab and watch for the confirmation email; store buyers go through Apple or Google; teams need their administrator. Multi-year terms just run out. Unlimited lasts until the paid time ends, and the account then falls back to the free tier with its monthly cap.
