Both services
Judging by what each provider publishes, NordVPN comes out ahead on most scored areas and Hide.me keeps more money in your pocket over the years. Nord leads four of six areas, with the widest distance on documented security; Hide.me takes the price-and-terms row thanks to a zero-cost tier and renewals that never rise. Censorship bypass is a draw.
What NordVPN publishes on security that Hide.me leaves blank
Nord documents nearly every hardening item the scoring looks for: RAM-only servers, post-quantum encryption in all apps, Double VPN multi-hop, two-factor sign-in, its own Private DNS against leaks, NordLynx built on WireGuard and a bug bounty on HackerOne. Our write-up on whether NordVPN is safe covers the audit record in detail.
Hide.me publishes a kill switch and WireGuard support, but does not publish the rest of the list, and unpublished items earn nothing. One trap worth knowing: Hide.me's kill switch ships switched off, so if the tunnel drops on hotel Wi-Fi your real address leaks until you enable it in settings. Neither provider publishes a security audit of its apps or open-source clients.
Privacy: a narrower lead built on Panama and a transparency report
Both run no-logs policies checked by independent auditors (Nord's verified five times since 2018) and neither keeps your connection IP. Nord gains extra credit because Panama sits outside the 5, 9 and 14 Eyes alliances, and it publishes a quarterly transparency report listing government requests and DMCA notices. The data says nothing about Malaysia's alliance status, so Hide.me gets no credit there.
Hide.me claws a point back on session records: Nord keeps last-session details for up to 15 minutes after you disconnect plus a flag that the account was active in the past 90 days, while Hide.me stores no session times at all.
Three NordVPN tiers against one Hide.me Premium: price now and at renewal
| Plan | 1 month | 1 year | 2 years | Renews at |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| NordVPN Basic | $14.99 | $65.88 | $94.23 | $139.08 yearly |
| NordVPN Complete | $19.99 | $77.88 | $121.23 | $219.48 yearly |
| NordVPN Prime | $29.99 | $113.88 | $202.23 | $296.28 yearly |
| Hide.me Premium | €11.99 | €54.99 | €69.99 | same price |
| Hide.me Free | €0 | — | — | — |
The intro figures look close; the real divergence lands on the second bill. Nord's 27-month Basic deal renews at $139.08 a year, roughly 3.3 times the intro monthly rate, and that jump is the main reason its price score sits low. Hide.me's Pricing Guarantee locks every renewal at the original price and length, which is exactly why it wins this category. Its free plan (unlimited data, 8 locations, 1 device, restricted speed, no card needed) doubles as a trial, something Nord doesn't offer; the 30-day money-back guarantee stands in for one. Cheapest rates, converted to euros: €3.00 a month for Nord (our conversion of its $3.49) against €2.69 for Hide.me Premium.
Fixed IP, port forwarding and the add-ons behind higher tiers
Hide.me bundles a fixed IP and dynamic port forwarding into Premium at no extra cost, useful if you host a game server or seed torrents. Nord charges separately for a dedicated IP at checkout (price shown only there), and port forwarding works solely through dedicated servers or that dedicated IP. In return, Nord's Complete and Prime tiers come with an ad and tracker blocker, antivirus, a password manager and 1 TB of encrypted cloud storage; Prime adds identity theft cover up to $1M and credit monitoring.
Nine platforms each, yet NordVPN wins on support
Both cover Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android, Android TV, Apple TV and browser extensions; Nord adds a Smart TV app, Hide.me Fire TV. The support-and-platforms gap comes down to hours: Nord states its live chat runs 24/7, while Hide.me does not publish round-the-clock hours for its chat. The ad and tracker blocker in Nord's higher tiers adds to its score here. Hide.me also offers Telegram, Discord and a forum on top of live chat.
Refunds, checkout and who runs each company
Both give you a 30-day window to change your mind. Nord states a full refund within that period, and if you bought it through the App Store, Google Play or Amazon, the store handles the refund; Hide.me promises 30-day money-back too, but does not publish its refund conditions. Auto-renewal is switched on by default at both, and Nord lets you cancel it yourself in Nord Account. Nord requires an email at sign-up, then takes cards, PayPal, BTC, ETH, LTC, a stablecoin and cash-bought prepaid cards; Hide.me adds SEPA and nine cryptocurrencies. Nord is run by nordvpn S.A. in Panama under Nord Security; Hide.me belongs to eVenture Limited, registered in Labuan, Malaysia.
Questions about NordVPN and Hide.me
Which is faster, NordVPN or Hide.me?
Unknown from our side: VPNRadarLab grades published documents, not throughput or streaming tests.
Is Hide.me a legitimate VPN?
Yes. Independent auditors have checked its no-logs claims more than once, and eVenture Limited is its registered operator.
Does Hide.me's price go up after the first term?
No, the Pricing Guarantee renews every plan at the original price and length.
Which one works better on networks that block VPNs?
A tie at 1.9 each. Each offers one counted bypass feature, obfuscated servers plus NordWhisper on Nord and StealthGuard plus SoftEther on Hide.me. Neither publishes the newer proxy protocols, which limits both on heavily filtered networks.
Who should buy which
Pick NordVPN for the fuller security stack, multi-hop and round-the-clock chat. Pick Hide.me Premium if renewals on a fixed budget matter more than documented hardening, or if you need a fixed IP and port forwarding without paying extra.
