Bright VPN has a single plan, and it's free. The site presents it as "Premium VPN. Free for you", and there is no paid version. You don't need an account, email or phone number, the app shows no ads, the number of devices and the amount of traffic are unlimited, and the location list covers more than 150 countries. For comparison, the median in our main ranking is €3.13 per month, about €37 per year for a paid VPN.

What you pay instead of money

The service belongs to Bright Data, a company with a proxy network. While your device sits idle, the company uses your connection to collect publicly available data from the internet on behalf of its clients. According to the service's description, this traffic amounts to roughly a few minutes of video per day. There are rules for data usage and a schedule, and in the settings you must allow at least three types of companies to operate through your connection. Requests from other clients go out through your IP address, and that is the main price of the plan.

In addition, the Bright VPN privacy policy states that it stores the connection IP and the session time. What this means for your privacy is covered on the Bright VPN safety page.

What the free plan does not cover

Torrents are forbidden by the terms of use and are blocked. The service does not support Netflix, Prime Video or Disney+. There are apps for Windows, macOS, Android 5.0 and later and LG webOS, but none for iOS and Linux. Extensions for Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Opera work as a remote control for the program on your computer.

The site says nothing about a trial period, refunds, auto-renewal or payment methods. If you need streaming, torrents or an iPhone, you will have to look at other free VPNs or a paid service.

Does Bright VPN have a paid version?
